4Awesome computer -- too much bloatware from Asus
By Genevieve
I just upgraded from a three-year-old Acer laptop, and so far this laptop has been a great choice. Looks sleek and sharp, runs fast, plays games beautifully (almost the first thing I did when I got it up and running was install Diablo 3 and Tera), matte screen looks nice and crisp. It's pretty much exactly what I was looking for in a laptop. Definitely happy with it so far.A couple of things that may or may not be negatives for you:- As another reviewer mentioned, the Nvidia GeForce GT 650M graphics card is DDR3, not GDDR5. This didn't matter much to me because it's still a very significant upgrade over what I was using before, but if you're looking for a GDDR5 video card you won't find it here.- ASUS BLOATWARE. Holy &@*$ there is a lot of bloatware that comes on this thing. I spent a while the other day trying to uninstall their preinstalled programs and I still have a bunch of processes running on my computer that I don't recognize. I'm toying with the idea of just wiping and reinstalling a clean version of Windows. All I want is to buy a laptop with a completely basic/bare-bones Windows installation and a browser so I can install everything else myself, but I have yet to have that happen.UPDATE:I ended up doing a clean Windows reinstall to wipe out Asus's bloatware. For the most part everything is still great, but there's one annoyance I've come across in regards to audio. When no sound is playing, every 10 seconds or so I'll hear a soft popping sound from my speakers. It drives me nuts when I'm sitting around browsing the internet without any music playing, but I'm not sure what's causing it (already updated my drivers, etc). It doesn't happen if they're playing sound (music, games, etc). That being said, the speakers sound great otherwise, and the little subwoofer that comes with the laptop is a nice little addon.I've also discovered that I actually have 4 USB3.0 ports, instead of 2 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0. :)

5Wonderful computer (once you get rid of crapware.)
By From Detroit
I was very happy with my previous ASUS laptop, and decided to go with this model, after a bit of deliberation. I use my machines for general productivity, web browsing, Netflix and for gaming. Unfortunately, I'm unable to afford a "true gaming" laptop. It doesn't seem to matter, however. This one works great!**Technical Side**So far, this machine has tandles EVERYTHING I've thrown at it. The CPU and GPU are good enough to last you a few years before they start showing their age. The RAM and HDD do leave some to be desired, but RAM is cheap, and with RAMDisk options out there, the hard drive will make little difference. Currently, 4GB is plenty for most applications and games. Those who intend on editing audio, photo or video will definitely require more. The black levels on this display are great. Games and HD movies are very crisp, and I enjoy the nice contrast levels. Some might be turned off by the 1366x768 resolution (mostly movie buffs, hardcore gamers and those who edit video/photos,) but I appreciate the boost in game performance (higher resolutions hit the GPU harder.)ASUS did a nice job with the sound system. The built-in speakers sound great for a laptop, and the added mini-sub gives you a little more low end, which is a plus. The backlit keyboard is awesome when gaming in a dark room!** Aesthetics**The black brushed aluminum and silvery grey mix is sharp. I've never been too fussy on how things look.**Performance**I have nothing but praise for movies streamed off of Netflix or Amazon Prime. They look great and sound great.MS Office programs load up fairly fast. I suspect RAMdisk or installing a SSD will expedite things tremendously here.I'm currently bouncing between 4 different games, and all of them run very well. I found that going through the Nvidia control panel and forcing the graphics card to be used with the games was optimal. The default "global" setting caused a fair amount of lag. *Guild Wars 2 - Runs on high at 60 FPS. NPC's and some structures take some time to populate the screen after fast traveling to Hoelbrak, but that's not a deal-breaker for me. *Diablo 3 - Runs on high with minimal lag issues while fighting packs of mobs in Act 1 of Hell Mode. I suspect I'll have to tweak some settings. *Starcraft 2 - Runs on ultra without a hitch. This was expected. *Torchlight 2 - Max-settings. This game doesn't require much, so no surprises here.My only complaint, which seems to be par-for-the-course with other reviewers, is the amount of crapware that comes preinstalled. I spent about an hour (kinda multitasking) removing most of it. It would be nice if companies would provide a checklist of applications that you'd like to load during start-up. Some of the programs are decent (Waves MAXXAudio, for example.) Others just chew up resources.

5Gorgeous laptop; FAST
By Mark
The wider screen makes the laptop feel bigger. Not a bad thing. Very fast. Some bloatware that can be removed and the usual McAfee AV software limited trial (will replace and use Avast). The sound is good and we are still trying to figure out the included tiny subwoofer, but overall bass sounds good. Here is something about the RAM. It is posted here as 6GB, but it is only 4gb RAM. If you read the description further down the page you will read the correct 4gb RAM. Amazon as usual took care of me and that situation. There are 2 video cards in this laptop. The Intel HD Graphics and also the Nvidia GT 650M. The way it is supposed to work is the Intel HD is used for everyday surfing, word processing, email, facebook, etc. The Nividia card will apparently kick in when gaming or when you specifically call for it in the application. Still need to figure this out, but I read about it online.I would definitely recommend this laptop to anyone who wants a very powerful entertainment/gaming laptop on a budget.Regrets? Would have liked the Blu-ray drive and the TV tuner. Other than that, solid.
