Product Description

The Elite Music Tap, the latest addition to our family of Airplay-compatible products, was created so that you can enjoy all your music wirelessly in various rooms of your home, regardless if it’s stored on your cell phone, iPod, computer or streamed through music services like Pandora and iheartradio. With Music Tap, one connection now means music in any room of your home. Built-in Wi-Fi gives way to Airplay, Apple’s music streaming technology that works seamlessly with your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and any computer with iTunes. Set up us a breeze with Airplay. As long as Music Tap and your Apple device or computer are connected to the same network, you’re all set. Simply tap the Airplay icon, choose a song and Music Tap is playing your music wirelessly. And it’s not just the music you own. Music Tap supports Airplay-enabled apps like Pandora and LastFM, letting you enjoy a virtually endless playlist. With multiple Music Tap systems, you can even enjoy music throughout the house. Using iTunes, simply choose the Airplay devices you want to stream music to and download Apple Remote from the app store to use your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad to control it all. Music Tap comes with a host of other networking features, including DLNA 1.5 Certification, meaning that Android phones, Tablets and DLNA-certified hard drives and PCs can sync with Music Tap to wirelessly stream music. vTuner Internet Radio gives you access to more than 16,000 stations from all over the world. In addition to Music Tap’s networking features, you can also enjoy Pioneer's spin on Bluetooth with the free Air Jam app, which lets you connect up to 4 Apple devices via Bluetooth to make a group playlist to play on Music Tap. And because the system is Made for iPod and iPhone certified, you can go the more traditional route with a pop-out dock for music playback and charging.

2Not ready for prime time
By Charlie
I bought this unit directly from Pioneer mainly for all the features it had crammed into it. iPod/iPhone slide out dock, Bluetooth for using an iPad or iPhone wirelessly, Internet radio, Air Jam, and wired or wireless connectivity for a network DLNA drive to stream gobs of music from your own files. With so many features could something go wrong? Well yes it can. The networking part of this unit is very buggy. It will play music files for a while but then "freeze up" when changing songs in a playlist. There is no telling when this will happen. Maybe the 4th song, maybe the 15th song. When it does this the whole system freezes and must be rebooted from the beginning. Sometimes shut down takes 2 tries and 5 minutes of time. I have tried all sorts of work around scenarios. I checked by network drive, all CAT 5E cables and connections are good. Everything else on my home network works flawlessly.I have put an email into Pioneer so I will see if they are responsive and hopefully be of assistance. For $479 this is not a cheap unit but it does put out decent sound. It is a big unit but I think it is attractive for its size. It has nice color screen and you can see a lot of information clearly as it is bright.Pioneer's Air Jam app is really a neat and fun way for a bunch of people to listen to music on the Music tap. Of course your friends will need to have an iPad or and iPhone to use the app.If i can get around this network problem I will change my rating.Update February 1,2012The unit is still buggy and problematic. I must be very careful when switching functions such as going from internet radio to Bluetooth. I must always stop the music source first before proceeding. if I don't do this the unit will do it "freezing up" and require a reboot. My plan of buying a couple of these and putting them around the house is officially off. Now I am looking at the Sonos system that appears much more stable and user friendly. The Sonos is pricey but you can build it up over time.I would avoid this unit if you are trying to utilize all the functions and not just using an iPod or iPhone to play music through. For the basic functions there are much cheaper alternatives.Update October 2012Now that Amazon is advertising this for $175.00 it is a compelling price. Remember however that Elite level products are only warranted through Authorized dealers and not internet purchases. If the computer board goes (as happened to me) you will be in for an expensive repair.

5Great dock and Airplay/Bluetooth speaker
By Sam
I already have a Samsung DA-E750, and wanted something similar for our summer house, but did not want to spend another $600. When I saw the Pioneer on Amazon at the amazingly low price, I immediately went ahead and ordered it. There were only a couple of reviews on Amazon, and a few other reviews here and there, mostly negative. However for the throw-away price I really did not see any down side, if nothing else I would just use it as an iPod dock. When the Pioneer unit showed up, the first thing that I was impressed by was the overall sleek look which blended great with the rest of our AV system (including a Pioneer Elite Kuro flatscreen). I had no problem with either hooking it up to the WiFi network or connecting to my iPhone through Bluetooth. I have also had no problems playing music through AirPlay and in fact it has been better than my Samsung with less dropouts. The sound has been perfectly O'K and in keeping with my expectations for a dock (although I agree the Samsung sound is better, I am not sure it makes that much difference listening to compressed mp3's). But one feature that I love about the Pioneer is the display, and the fact that it shows cover art and track name/info over AirPlay (and also BT). I stream the music from an upstairs office and hence being able to see the track info downstairs is great. I have tested out all the features and as of yet have not run into any of the issues raised by other reviewers. All in all, I could not be happier with this purchase. However I have had it for three weeks so I am not commenting on reliability but given that Elite music players have a 5 year warranty when bought from authorized dealers, I can't believe that they are constructed poorly. I would suggest that if you are reasonably tech-savvy, go for this player, it is an absolute steal.

5Pioneer X-SMC4-K
By A. Krstic
I received the product very fast. It is great looking and does everything and more. The setup took only 5 min. I am amazed that some users complain it is complicated. It works well with AirPlay and Apple iTunes (Pandora, etc). It does connect to Apple or non Apple products via Bluetooth. Sound quality is excellent with the extra features turned on. The unit will connect to a DLNA server, and will play music well. It also shows up as a renderer for remote play. You can use dock to charge iPod or iPhone and play music. The Internet radio is great feature too. There are many stations to select from. It also work as an alarm clock. If that is not enough, you can play music from the USB port. For the price, you just can't find anything like this. 5 star product. Note: you need to have a decent Internet speed and WiFi or Ethernet to connect it
