5Excellent sound, attractive - Very Pleased
By Eric Cartman
Okay - 1st review of this. I bought it without reading any reviews, just knowing it was their latest and greatest. Not disappointed. Just purchased an LG 47LV5400 (excellent value as well) and wanted something more than factory sound, without the complication and ire of my wife that comes with a complete A/V system. Bottom line is this is a wonderful 'add' that takes a gorgeous TV like LG's and brings it to life. Make the factory speakers seem defective. If you are just looking to add some excellent sound to a TV - this is it. I have it set up in a 12x12 room and the sub rocks. I mean in ways that I never expected a wireless sub to perform. I do have a full blown A/V set-up in another room, and I'm not suggesting this in any way performs like a powered 15" Paradigm - but - for what it is, very impressed. It's worth noting that most newer TV's (including my new LG) that have an optical audio out, it is not a VARIABLE optical out. (Regardless of what the brain-dead guy at LG tech-support states, wasting 2 hours of my time having to remount and rewire the TV using analog - not happy) Meaning your stuck using Vizio's remote for the volume, not your TVs. That sucks. I want to use one remote. The only variable output on my TV is the analog headphone jack. So I have an 1/8" to 1/8" cable using the analog headphone out on the TV to the analog input on the Vizio unit. I set the volume close to full on the Vizio sound bar, then use the TV remote to control the volume. The speakers on the TV automatically shut off when I plug into the headphone jack - all is good. There are a few settings that can be made on the soundbar. Personal preference I guess. Regardless, all of them sound worlds above the tinny factory TV speakers. I am thoroughly impressed by the sound of this set-up, which really was my main priority. I stopped by the local big box store to check out other options (Polk, Sony, Panasonic, LG), and was not that impressed - though it is always tough to judge inside a store that sounds like a casino.Initially disappointed w/Vizio's tech support staff. I called wanting specific info on the HDMI ARC set-up options and was placed on hold for 15 minute (15 MINUTES) while he researched the info. Maybe I got the latest trainee, but it wasted my time. I did receive a callback from Vizio as a follow-up. They apologized for the wait, and wanted to make sure all my questions were answered. Redeemed, all is well.Highly recommend this product. Exceeded my expectations. AND, it looks sexy. Doesn't stick out so far like the other Vizio sound bars. Man tested, Wife approved. :)

5VHT215 delivers as promised
By Uncle Jim
I've been looking for an easy and affordable way to enhance the sound of an LED TV for my hard-of-hearing Mom for some time now and the VHT215 was the first product I've seen that met my minimum requirements of being less than $300 ($249 on Amazon), having a wireless subwoofer and supporting digital audio input (rather than just L/R audio in). The product was very well packed for safe shipping, one of the best I've seen for electronic products. Set-up was a breeze, the main speaker bar comes with feet so if you're placing it on a table or TV stand or what ever all you really have to do is locate the bar where you want it and connect the audio/video cable(s), place the subwoofer some where with line-of-sight to the bar, plug them in...and you have a significant enhancement to your sound. I've had a wired true sorround sound system in my home theater for some time now and the VHT215 is not as good but when you consider the cost and convenience it's a nice compromise. The sound bar is thinner and more modern looking than the previous generation Vizio sound bars so it gets 2 thumbs up for looks. I used the optical digital input so the sound is traveling from the TV to the sound bar. That gives the option of watching TV without powering up the sound bar, which I know defeats the purpose but I like to keep my options open. The VHT215 also supports 2 HDMI in and 1 HDMI out so you can route your set-top box and blu-ray/DVD player through the sound bar and on to the TV. The HDMI connection supports more advanced audio formats than the digital optical so it should provide even better audio performance, depending on your source. The instructions caution that the TV should support an audio return channel if you're using HDMI so if your tv is "older" you should verify this if you're planning to take advntage of the HDMI interfaces. The remote is small and convenient to use but the only exposed buttons are power and volume +/-. For anything else you have to slide out a small pad from the bottom of the control that has additional input keys. It's a clever design but the pad is a little awkward to get at and seems a little flimsy in how it's attached. The good news is that once you have things adjusted the way you want them you shouldn't have to access it very often. One final benefit of the VHT215 that's not really advertised is that you can use it to play music from your portable music player via a standard headphone jack. It does not have an iPOD dock but you can connect your Apple or any other player and get reasonably good sound quality. So, overall, I'm happy with the purchase and would recommend it to a friend. There may be better price/performance deals out there but I haven't seen them. I do recommend that you check out the VHT215 product manual which is available on-line from Vizio to verify that it supports the interfaces you'll need in your set-up before you buy. Happy listening.

5Wait Is Over
By LegendDP
If you have been waiting for someone to take the average sound bar to the next level well, wait no more. VIZIO has done it with the VHT 215. Just one HDMI connection to your HDTV and your all set. If your looking for a vast improvement over your average HDTV speakers but you really didn't want to get into a big sound system with speakers all over the place and/or an additional receiver setting somewhere then this is the one. I wanted to add a little more bass to my HDTV and this has worked out terrific. The controls are easy to use, the directions are easy to understand, the installation is easy to do. So don't wait any longer you won't be disappointed. And buy the way I have not seen any firmware issue with this but if you don't connect the system to the right HDMI connection (ARC) on your HDTV I do believe it could create the issue another person has described.
