4Good system for the price.
By Techgirl
I bought this system on sale when it was $179.95. I was looking for something with a Blu-Ray player and surround sound that I could connect to my 50 inch RCA DLP TV in our newly remodeled basement family room. I didn't want to spend a lot of money since the kids are mainly the ones use this TV. My 13 year old son had the system out of the box and hooked up within 15 minutes. It did take us awhile, however, to figure out how to adjust the speaker levels. The instructions that come with the system aren't very helpful but the system itself isn't too complicated so we just started playing with it and eventually figured it out. The sound is about what you'd expect from a 300 watt system. It's not amazing but it's good, and for a family room used by teenagers it's exactly what I was hoping for- an inexpensive blu-ray home theater system that delivers a nice, crisp picture with a decent sound. The one complaint I do have is that it says it streams Netflix but only if you have a wired connection, otherwise you have to purchase an ethernet bridge (sometimes called a gaming bridge) to plug into the LAN port on the back so that you can connect to your wireless network. This additional piece of equipment costs around $80. To get around this, we connected our Wii to the system so we could stream Netflix wirelessly that way. Works great. Overall, for the price the quality is good and exactly what you'd expect from a low to mid-range priced system with a blu-ray player. If you can find it on sale, even better!

2I know it's not a top of the line machine, but...

...it should NOT take six minutes to open the disc drawer. That's not an exaggeration. From turning the thing on to actually getting the disc out, it literally took the entirety of David Bowie's 'Heroes,' which is listed as being six minutes and ten seconds, plus a few seconds of the songs before and after it.I know blu-rays in general take a bit longer, and granted, the disc was the new Tron, which has a lot more to load than your average blu-ray (and no, it wasn't the disc...it's pristine, and plays just fine once it actually loads.) The sluggishness is across the board. As if that weren't annoying enough, you can't just push a button and wait patiently...the machine will only accept commands from the remote (or even the front buttons) within a narrow, difficult to predict window, which leads to situations like this:Power On.Push eject. Nothing.Player displays BD/USB.Push eject. Nothing.Player spins up disc in the player.Push eject. Nothing.Disc begins playing.Push eject. Wait 20 seconds, during which the disc will continue to play. Disc finally comes out.And that's assuming that the player didn't crash at some point in this process, resulting in playing the disc at an unadjustable volume and not responding to ANY commands until you unplug the thing. Hopefully, the last user remembered to turn the volume down when they shut it off, otherwise you're stuck with about 20-30 seconds of unavoidable, loud sound. Not good when your roommate is sleeping.Beyond that, everything else seems OK...not fantastic sound, but perfectly reasonable for the price, discs play just fine once you get them to actually load. Haven't used the Netflix or USB options, the tuner, or anything else. Playback looks good on a projector. But yeah. The severe sluggishness is a MAJOR buzzkill.
