4Very good all around mid-level + receiver. Bugs in Airplay and remote app.
By K. Winter
I've been into audio since I was a child. I've loved my Harman Kardon 435 AVR but over the years the technology has surpassed it so after hearing many rave reviews of the previous 2012 model I decided to give this new 2013 model Denon 2113CI a go.I've had it a few days now and here are my thoughts so far on it.- The sound is comparable to my old Harman Kardon which I'm happy about, and the settings and menus are much easier to use that older receiver menus, plus it has all of the newest modes like DTS-HD Master Audio for Blu-Ray and most ever other mode you can think of (excluding THX).Positives:1) Great sound2) Easy to use remote (aka even my wife can run it)3) Can be controlled via iPhone/iPad (Word of advice, if you want this feature buy the DeRemote app, the free Denon one is junk.)4) Apple Airplay5) 2 Zone amplified6) Powerful soundNegatives:1) Buggy Apple Airplay1a) If you switch off airplay on the main zone you cannot go back without stopping the song on the Apple Remote App and starting it up again.1b) BUG: The manual says your receiver uses the volume in the Apple Remote App, this is true, however there is a bug! If zone 1 is on something else, say Blu-Ray, and zone 2 is on Airplay the Apple Remote App jacks the sound in Zone 1 so you try to turn up the Airplay in Zone 2 and instead turn up the Blu-Ray in zone 1. Hopefully Denon will fix this, this should only control the volume of the zone using Airplay. (I have the latest firmware as of 5/25/2012) Also be careful turning it on, if you last listened to your iTunes on a high level you could blow a speaker as your amp will now have that level.1c) There is no dedicated Airplay button so there is no way to get back to it if you change zones even though Airplay keeps playing on your iTunes.... The network button works for zone 2 on this if zone 1 is playing Airplay, but the Network button does not work for zone 1, you have to restart everything to get it playing again.1d) You cannot go directly to playing Airplay on zone 2, you have to hijack zone 1 and then it will play on zone 2, then you can turn zone 1 back to what you were watching/listening to. Annoying if you are say watching a movie on zone 1 in the living room and want to listen to music on zone 2 in the rest of the house.1e) Very primitive control of Airplay via the receiver, it's a joke really. You basically have to use Apple's Remote App to make it work properly.2) Denon iPad/iPhone app is a complete joke and full of bugs.3) HDMI you CANNOT use any HDMI source in zone 2. I didn't realize this prior to buying. There is a work around I've found, you connect HDMI and RCA cables to the source and this works ok however the following occur.3a) Zone 2 is slightly ahead of the HDMI source even if you turn off all the processing and go straight stereo (this aforementioned helps but doesn't fix the problem).3b) Not all things have RCA and HDMI, take for instance my Blu-Ray. It has only an HDMI so you CANNOT hear it in the other zones. This may or may not be a deal killer for you...Would I buy it again? I'm up in the air on this, and time will tell. Hopefully Denon will release future firmware updates that fix the problems I've mentioned. Overall I'd say it's a very good receiver but make sure you can live with 1) the buggy Apple Airplay and 2) that HDMI sources cannot be played in zone 2 (see work-around above).

5Excellent Sound, Functionality, and Value
By Jeff from Atlanta
I purchased the Denon 2113 after my 13 year old Harman Kardon AVR 65 bit the dust. While I loved my HK, this system sounds much much. As I was researching various systems, I checked with my speaker speaker manufacturer, Paradigm for their thoughts about electronics. Paradigm unofficially recommended Denon over the other receiver manufacturers. I'm glad took their advice.First, the sound is superb - very clean, quiet, and accurate. Additionally, I absolutely love the ability to stream music from the internet. The number of stations available through the Denon / Vtuner interface is staggering and the sound is excellent. In addition there are apps included for Pandora, Spotify, and Sirrius that work well (but why bother paying for these services when there is so much excellent, high quality free content available through the Denon interface). Another excellent feature is multi-room which lets you set up speakers in second room and listen to the same or different content as what is playing in the main room. My old HK required a separate external amp to use their multi-room capability. The Denon does not require an additional external amp, sounds better than my old HK, and runs much cooler. (I have only experienced the sound delay between the main and second rooms when I use my cable box, otherwise everything else syncs perfectly). I love the the IPad, and Android apps which let you control the system remotely. Contrary to other reviews that I've read, the remote apps work very well and are very convenient. Finally, optimizing the sound through Audyssey is easy and results in excellent sound reproduction.Additional features that are very cool are Airplay and home networking. Airplay is ridiculously easy to set up and use. It allows you to play any audio content from your home network connected Apple devise on the Denon system. Additionally you can easily play content that is on your home network connected computer.Overall, this system provides excellent functionality and value at $649 (which is $400 less than what I paid for my HK in 1998.) While several of the reviews I've read have a few gripes about the system, I believe that they are too harsh and unfair. This system is absolutely wonderful and I believe meets or exceeds everything in its price range.

2Disapponited after been a loyal user
By K. Jasrotia
I have been loyal follower of Denon for over 10 years and between me & my extended family we have enjoyed over dozen different model of Denon AV receivers. However, the 2113CI has really disappointed me.Since I have received the unit I have been experiencing various h/w related issues.1) I am getting crackling noise from speakers when using with PS3 and DTV rcvrs2) when watching video from DTV rcvrs, after ever 30-40 seconds the sound drops for a split second & than goes back to normal. Damn annoying when watching movies.3) Similar to other reviews AIRPLAY is bit trickyIt is over 30 days since my purchase so unfortunately missed my return period due to extensive travel in my job. Denon wants me to take it to a repair center that means now I have unwire the whole setup and hope for the best. Bummed about the whole experience and did not expect all this after spending $700.If you do end up going with Denon...please test it out within your return period to ensure that there are no chronic problem with the unit or even with the model.
