1Sharp BDMPC41 Blu-ray Home Theatre System in a Box
By Mizz Dee
I researched this surround sound system extensively prior to purchase and specifically chose this one because of it's compatibility with the Sharp 70" television purchase I was making. I shopped all local retailers for best pricing and availability. This company offered the best pricing and shipping through Amazon, so I made the purchase. The product was LISTED BY THE SELLER AS NEW. I had no interest in purchasing a used or refurbished product. My online receipt likewise indicated the product was NEW!Online notifications came quickly and the system was to be delivered within a week, far sooner than the originally projected delivery date. Great!! However, it turned out not so great. The package arrived and in large preprinted letters all over the exterior of the box and on shipping documents inside the box was written "REFURBISHED". I did not shop for or purchase a USED surround sound system!!!I sent multiple emails to the vendor and have spent HOURS trying to get the issue resolved. Apparently this company sells only refurbished products....oops, let's make the consumer aware of this fact in the posting so that they can make an intelligent purchase decision. I was charged shipping to have the system delivered. The company did arrange for FedEx pick up at their cost. However, Amazon gigs your credit card the day the product is shipped....I HAVE STILL NOT RECEIVED A CREDIT TO MY ACCOUNT EVEN THOUGH SHIPPING TRACKING DOCUMENTS SHOWED THIS ITEM RECEIVED BY THE COMPANY WEEKS AGO!! The company responds quickly to emails, however nothing happens! I am still waiting for a $420.00 credit to my bank account...digusting customer service, it's been well over a month since first making the purchase.I have always been a satisfied Amazon shopper, that's why I thought I would take a chance with a major purchase. NEVER AGAIN....very similar experience with a companion television purchased to use with this surround sound system. I ultimately shopped locally and wound up paying FAR LESS for a BRAND NEW SYSTEM than the quoted Amazon price for an UNDISCLOSED REFURBISHED system! This system may be wonderful....I will never know, but not the experience with this company through Amazon!!!!

4Soundbars Are Not Surround Systems
By charmdimsure
I purchased this system about three months ago to replace an older Sony surround sound system. I read a lot of reviews on soundbar systems and originally purchased a Samsung soundbar, which I did not like at all. First let me say: I really like this system. It's not a surround sound system, but - for the money - it's outstanding. It's simple to install and it sounds good and looks good.We had no "sync-ing" issues [we paired this with a Samsung LCD/HDTV], which is something a lot of reviewers of soundbar systems commented about. It installed quickly [it comes with it's own brackets] and we had it up and running in less than half an hour. It does have wires [the subwoofer is not self-powered and is wired to the bluray player, as are the two side speakers], but they're fairly unobtrusive. You won't get true surround sound with this system, but it's close. My old Sony had a much "richer" sound, but it took up a lot of space and all those speaker wires drove me crazy. The only other quibble is that we had to turn the subwoofer all the way down, because the base is "heavy" at anything higher than a +1. We also had to turn the center speaker way up, because it was difficult to hear the voices over the music/sound effects. The pros are: Cost; ease of installation; attractive appearance; good sound and no sync-ing issues, whether we're playing a DVD, a bluray or cable. The cons are: The wires to the side speakers and subwoofer; subwoofer is not indepently powered; heavy on the base.Altogether, if you really want a soundbar/bluray system, for the money, this is the one I'd recommend.

1It ain't no Sony!

After having only Sony TV and video products I took a chance and tried a Sharp Aquos LCD TV and the Sharp BD-MPC41U because the thought of the interface between the two products would be a nice feature--wrong! After buying over $100 in additional cables between both units, the only thing you get is that the TV will turn on/off the Blue Ray player and that you can control the player with the TV remote--big deal. The manual is poorly written and incomplete. In order to get sound, you must press the mute button--really? Good luck finding that in the instruction manual. It took several of us hours before we figured that one out. The setup is painful, the manual is of little help. Netflix works OK but the movies must be started at least twice to get them working. The movie titles are without a picture, they don't download for some reason. Netflix help lists the BD-MPC41U exclusively when addressing issues, which means Sharp is really lacking in this area. Frankly, I'll never buy anything but Sony again. Sony's products are easy to set up, easy to use, they are all compatable, they never have problems. And I would also say that the Aquos picture isn't all that great either. Believe me, buy Sony, don't buy Sharp, their stuff is crap!
