4great sound, but minor annoyance
By Alfred Penitent
This thing has great sound, but a couple minor annoyances cost a star.* It has auto-off after a few minutes, but no auto-on! That gets annoying if you pause a lot.* The max volume is too low. Some sources like Netflix have very low volumes, and this thing won't go loud enough. In most situations, it won't be a problem, but if you're watching a low volume source in a noisy environment, it won't be loud enough.

4It's good, not great.
By Steven
Context: I live in an apartment with a living room that is approximately 15x12 with an additional small room attached that is approximately 6x9. I was looking for a sound bar that wasn't gigantic or too expensive. I happened upon this, read up on the "3D" technology and decided to try it out. There are very few reviews of this on the internet too.Setup: I watch TV on this: TCL LE39FHDF3300TA 39-Inch 1080p LED HDTV with 2-Year Limited Warranty (Black) and the speakers are exactly what you expect. Tinny and lack depth, or lack anything remotely acceptable for an audiophile. (The TV on the other hand is great by the way) I have a PC connected to the TV via HDMI and use the PC for home theater duty.3D Sonic Emotion Sound: This "sound bar" uses 3D sound processing to enhance the sound to produce a fuller effect from a smaller package. The technology is licensed to different companies and Toshiba adopted it and put it into this unit. Website: [...] I think that this technology does what it is suppose to do. Turning off the 3D sound effect via the included remote actually doesn't degrade the quality of the sound too much, surprisingly.Impressions: I plugged this thing directly into the TV's 3.5mm audio jack. I was underwhelmed. It just sounded like it added bass and not a lot of bass to what I was already familiar with. The TV does not have optical audio out. Oh well. I adjusted the sound on the TV's menu and then it occurred to me that I should plug it directly into the computer. Duh. Plugged it in, I was underwhelmed again. Then it occurred to me again to play with the computers audio card to adjust the sound. BINGO. This little thing impressed me. The volume down low fills the room appropriately and you seriously notice everything in the audio from anywhere in the room. The volume up high sounds full and impressive. I don't play music too loud because I don't want to enrage my neighbors, but it has the capabilities to do that.Annoyances: You have to turn this thing on if it's been idle. I would like it to constantly powered on. But that's my laziness coming in when I have to push an additional button. I'll get over it. Adding another remote to my set up is annoying as well but I just double sided taped it to the back of another remote so it's easily accessible. Also the remote is TINY and could be easily lost.Value: $179.99 is the MSRP on this. That's not worth it in my opinion. At $140 it's sort of worth it, but if it were less it'd be a deal.I'm going to keep this because it's a good option for apartment dwellers and offers good sound from a small package. Since I can't speak to how it sounds in a gigantic family room, someone would have to test that out to see what that would be like.

5Great little sound bar
By twidget
For such a little system it puts out very good sound. I have this in a very loud space on a ship and between the ventilation and 1MC it can often be difficult to hear the TV without something to boost the sound. This does the trick very nicely. I'm using the SPDIF for sound from the TV and it's clear, undistorted and crisp. Doesn't sound muddy or too low. This has a very small form factor so it doesn't take up much room at all - great for a small room or hiding the mini-soundbar away somewhere discreetly. The little remote is a nice touch. Probably the only real drawback is that you have no way of knowing what the input is and you just have to cycle through them all until you get to the one where the sound works. The exception to this is the blue LED indicator for the bluetooth connection. The other thing that I like about it is the bluetooth connectivity. Paired up with my SIII easily and started playing music from my phone right off the bat.Overall, very good system for the price.
