5.8 GHz Wireless Speaker Kit, Model 1600

Product Description

The Model 1600 wireless speaker kit will untie your speakers. No more running long speaker cables. Set up your home theater rear speakers or install speakers in another room without a big cabling project. The Model 1600 comes with two separate 150-Watt wireless receivers for each speaker.

The transmitter will send the music at 5.8 GHz to the wireless receivers up to 200 feet. You will enjoy true CD quality with uncompressed digital wireless audio. Each receiver has a mono speaker amplifier built in and connects directly to any passive loudspeaker. The built-in amplifiers deliver the efficiency of conventional class-D amplifiers while at the same time delivering far lower audio distortion.

Each wireless receiver measures only 5 x 3.5 x 2 inches and can easily be mounted to a speaker.

1Back to the Drawing Board for This Product! Also Amphony is Unresponsive to Emails
By D. B. Leach
I've been purchasing 100's of products from Amazon.com practically since the inception of their website, and I can say w/o reservation that this is one of the poorest designed products that I've ever purchased from them! The only reason that I'm keeping it is that Amazon.com has no other similar product that is competitively priced.Identified issues:1. As stated in the instructions, the transmitter and receivers must be in "line of sight". This means that they literally must "see" each other with no intervening obstructions (in light of this usage restriction, why not just hard wire the speakers to the receiver and avoid use of this product altogether?). The best I've been able to do is about 20' distance btwn transmitter and receivers through glass doors and window. Also as one might expect, every time someone walks into the path of the signal, the signal drops to one or both receivers. Also to work properly w/o intermittent static the receivers have to be so incredibly precisely aligned in 3 dimensional space wrt to the transmitter (incl. angle of rotation) that it takes a systems engineer (that I happen to be) to align them properly.2. Not mentioned in the instructions: the transmitter requires a very narrow input voltage and impedance signal range in the receiver if using the audio inputs. I tried using a Radio Shack amplifier so that I could use the "Zone 2" feature of my Pioneer receiver, but alas that did not work. The only hookup that worked was using the headphone out jack and setting the volume control to exactly what the transmitter required--and that means I cannot listen to speakers in 2 rooms at once (using this jack shuts off the main speakers).3. The right channel frequently has "snap, crackle, pop" sounds (and this is not a Rice Crispies commercial) that as best I can determine is due to the spatial orientation of the receiver module wrt to the transmitter module. I've tried adjusting it many times and these sounds stop for a while, then start up again for unknown reasons. In sharp contrast, I purchased through Amazon.com two Sennheiser wireless headphones and they work very well up to 80-100 feet from the transmitter while I'm walking no less in open or closed spaces (this would be an impossible challenge for this product); and they cost about the same.Bottom line: for the price of this product, I'd advise the potential purchaser to shop around and find a product that actually works properly as advertised. This product is low-tech by today's wireless technology stds.; and is far too quirky for most consumers who may have limited technical knowledge.Update: one Model 1600 receiver has failed--it pops and clicks so bad that no human being could stand to listen to the very loud static noises. I attempted to contact Amphony using their support website but never rec'd a reply. Amphony was totally unresponsive to my and other customer requests; and they are a disreputable vendor in my opinion. Don't reward this outrageously inept co. by purchasing any of their products!!

4Works great.
By B. Jennings
The wireless receiver/transmitter works great. No noticable lags (that I can tell). I am using them for the rear surround sound speakers for my HTS.A few caveats:It needs access to a power plug to run. A battery pak option would be nice for greater convienence.Random minor pops and hisses when the sound is off, since the wireless speakers are always on.Volume is set by each unit that attaches to the speakers with a pots nob; using your HTS volume appears to have no affect.A wish:It would be great if they would mount to the wall speaker mount and then allow for speaker mounting as well. These caveats and wish (nit) aside, I would buy them again. They work as promised and allow for placement of speakers when wires can't be easily ran along baseboards or ceilings.Very satisfied and friends are impressed.

1poor quality
By Toemass
Recieved this product and it looked cool everything neatly packaged however the transmitter seemed to look a little low quality(cabinet molded poorly, rough surface) I got around to connecting it this weekend, 1st had to disconnect my Rocket Fish transmitter and connect the Amphony got it all connected and nothing! DOA and Amazon will only refund not replace, what a huge waste of time! Based on some other negative reviews looks like Amphony may have some quality issues but I guess I won't know since Amazon won't let me get a replacement! should have stayed with my Rocket Fish but wanted something truly wireless with more than 15 watts of power. This was a dissapointing learning experience!
