Polk Audio F/X Wireless Surround Sound (Black)

Product Description

Spectacular Surround Sound In Minutes With No Drilling, No Wires, No Mess Not only does the F/X not need wires, but it doesn't need multiple enclosures or dedicated power amps either. It's designed to deliver surround sound from a single cabinet. The new F/X Wireless Surround employs our Controlled Dispersion Array and Polk Digital Logic technologies to solve the installation problems posed by conventional multi-enclosure, wired surround sound speaker systems. A 2.4 GHz transmitter that connects to your home theater receiver or surround sound processor lets you enjoy the convenience of wireless 5.1, 7.1, and 9.2 surround operation, and the simplicity of placing the F/X loudspeaker on the floor, a table or a shelf.

4Wireless Wonder
By Pennz
I was looking for a surround speaker system for my new 72" Mitsubishi DLP. The TV came with a wireless Polk sub, so I purchased a pair of Polk Monitor 60's. The sound was good but I needed to add the rear surround. I could not find any customer reviews on the Polk F/X Wireless surround speaker, but I figured with my other Polk speakers, I would take the Plunge. I am extremely happy to say that right out of the box, I hooked up the transmitter to the receiver with the supplied wire, plugged the transmitter and the speaker in and I was enjoying great surround sound. I would recommend this speaker setup to anyone. The only problem I can see is if you have a computer or some other piece of equiptment that might give off some energy that will interfere with the wireless. I had a computer monitor that was plugged in near by that was giving me some popping noises. Moved the monitor, no more problems. Love the speakers, Thank's Polk..

1Convenient, but that's about it.
By aurick
When it comes to ease of setting this up, there's no comparison. Simply connect four wires from your receiver up to the transmitter box. Plug the speaker into an electrical outlet and place it behind your couch. Refer to the distance table in the setup guide for the correct values to enter into your receiver's configuration. (They don't recommend using Audigy or another automatic setup.) That's it. I was able to go from 5.1 to 7.1 while simultaneously removing two thick wires that had been running under the living room's area rug. So from this perspective the product is a total win.Unfortunately, setup only lasts until you actually watch something. From then on, you have to live with the results and I was only able to tolerate a month before I brought my side speakers back and added two small rear speakers for 7.1. The lack of audio fidelity is extremely frustrating.Movies and TV: Either crank up the volume or be prepared for this speaker to go into standby on a regular basis. When that happens you hear a faint chirping sound, which is mildly annoying but tolerable. What's bad is that when the speaker then gets told to produce sound again it will often produce a loud popping sound that not only brings you jarringly out of what you're watching but can literally make you (and any pets in the room) jump. The speaker will also sometimes lapse into producing static for which there is usually no solution other than turning it off, unplugging the transmitter, waiting 10 seconds, then plugging them back in and resynchronizing them. Not exactly conducive to enjoying a movie! For the record, I did try moving the transmitter around and ensured that there was nothing between it and the speaker other than the couch. No dice.Games: Playing on the Xbox was also quite frustrating due to the fact that I experienced a constant echo effect. I even tried adjusting the speaker settings in my receiver to see if I could make the effect go away, but I was stuck with it. Switching back to wired speakers completely eliminated the effect so I know it's the Polk audio F/X rather than the Xbox or the titles I was playing.By the way, forget about using this product at the same time that you're cooking something in the microwave. Even with the microwave 30 feet away from the transmitter and speaker, not to mention a refrigerator between the microwave and the living room, there is massive interference with this speaker. Lots of static and popping. If you want surround sound and there is absolutely no way to run wires for speakers, this product is I suppose better than nothing. I recommend that if you buy it you make absolutely certain that you'll be able to return it without hassle should you be disappointed.

5works great for me!!
By B. Starobin
My experience with this Polk speaker has been great! The small unobtrusive speaker delivers a credible, enveloping surround field from behind my couch. My wife and I really appreciate the lack of wires to multiple speakers. As pointed out by another reviewer, the speaker will go into standby mode after ~10 - 15 minutes in the absence of detected signal but during normal non-stereo programs (Dolby Digital movies, football games, TV shows or anything with a surround track) it continues to operate. When it does go into standby mode, the speaker emits a low-level chirping noise which I don't find objectionable. As far as its operation in the presence of RF interference (like WiFi in particular), we have had as many as 4 laptops/smart phones operating simultaneously in the same room as the Polk f/x and the system hasn't misbehaved at all.
