well built
By Greg V. Frugoli
I owned the older, full sized Harman Kardon speaker system for iPod and I must say it had superior sound than this Go+Play Micro. The sound on this product is fine it's just that the old model really pumped with the help of some woofers and larger speakers in general. Why they (Harman Kardon) changed a good thing is beyond me. With that said, I don't have any reason to bash the Go+Play except to say it's not as good as the old model.

Harman Kardon Go+Play Micro Speaker System for iPod
By eau
First off, I couldn't believe the size of the package when it arrived. It's pretty big for a portable system. There is nothing 'micro' about it despite the fact that it's advertised as a portable micro speaker system. Looking beyond the size, it's a beautiful, well designed system. The stainless steel handle adds an aesthetic and fashionable touch to the unit. The volume control and power button are cleverly integrated into a circular disc on the left side of the unit.I am pleasantly surprised by the sound quality of this "boombox". It's pumps out a lot of bass and yet is very clear on the treble side. The sound is simply amazing given it size. Unlike most boombox, the sound doesn't deteriorate as the volume is increased. There is no bass/treble or equalizer control for fine tuning though. The iPod dock on the top of the unit is inclined towards to the front, so you can see the iPod screen easily without having to walk up to the unit. The dock is vertically adjustable to suit the thickness of the particular model of iPod/iPhone that you have. However, the width of the dock is fixed and is tight fit. You may likely have to remove any custom casing on the iPod before it would fit in the dock. The unit provides various connection inputs at the back. An auxiliary input allows you to connect any MP3 players, PC speaker output and even gaming consoles (a 3.5mm audio adapter may be required). A composite video output allows you to connect the unit to a TV and play back videos and photos on your connected iPod/iPhone (sorry, no HD quality here). The unit can also be connected to a computer for interfacing with iTunes directly, without the need to undock your iPod and sync it manually (USB cable is not included).Despite its relatively bulky size, the unit is portable. It can be dual powered by either AC or 8 C-cell batteries, which are installed at the back of the unit. It comes with a tiny remote for volume control and the dock connected iPod/iPhone.The speaker system does have very good sound. I use it as my main bedroom audio system and my old boomboxes has rested in the garage since then.

Excellent Product
By Alex
As most prudent buyers, I did my research prior to purchasing this Micro Speaker System. I looked at Sony, Altec Lansing, Kicker, and Bose. My goal was to purchase a speaker system that had good sound, was portable and was made with quality. After what seemed to be an eternity I narrowed my choice between this unit and the Bose portable soundock. Initially, I was sold on the Bose Soundock. I have purchased Bose products in the past and have been a very happy customer. But at a regular price of $399 and a sale price of $349, I figured I would to try the Harman Kardon Go + Play Micro. At a regular price of $299. and a sale price $162 on Amazon I could not pass up this deal of 60% less than the Bose. I also figured if I didn't like it, I could send it back and purchase the Bose Soundock.I ordered the unit Monday, December 19 through regular shipping. Amazingly, it arrived on Thursday, December 22!The unit at first glance will either amaze you as being very contemporary and stylish or will make you wonder what space-age device has landed from outer space. Upon a quick review of the instructions, I eagerly plugged the unit in and proceeded to attach my 5th generation Ipod nano . As I pressed the play button on the remote control I was pleased with the sound. I slowly increased the volume and found the lows, mid's and high's to maintain their fullness and clarity. I hesitatantly continued to raise the volume (expecting to hear distortion) and found the sound to be extremely acceptable. With a smile on my face, I listened to several other songs (rock, pop, country, blues) and quickly found this unit was not going back to Amazon and there would be no portable Bose Soundock in my house!!In regards to the portability of the unit, the Speaker System has some weight to it (due to the quality) but nothing that would prevent me from taking it camping or to some other event. I am in the process of purchasing rechargeable batteries and a good charging unit. I therefore cannot comment on the sound quality when listening in portable mode. I will update this review when that occurs. Additionally, this unit is compatable with my daughters 6th generation Ipod nano and my wife's 4th generation Ipod nano.As for the pro's on this unit: - great sound - portable - stylish and contemporary - simple and clean layout of buttons - ability to play other mp3 devicesCon's on this unit: - docking of your Ipod or Iphone is not the easiest to slide in/out. - remote works fair at best - no docking station for the remote - no built in rechargeable batteries - power supply "bulky" and gets in the wayOverall, on a scale of 1-10, I would rate this unit a solid 9. I cannot comment on the sound of the other units mentioned above other than the Sony and Bose which I spent extensive time listening and comparing to. I liked the simple look of the Sony ($200) but felt it did not have the quality nor sound as the Harman Kardon. The Bose on the other hand was equal to in sound if not slighly better than the Harman Kardon. It also had the rechargeable lithium batteries that when in a portable mode produced a very satisfying sound even at louder volume. I would therefore say, if you have the money and are stuck on the Bose brand then by all means purchase the Bose portable Soundock. But for the cost savings of $150-180 (minus the cost of what rechargeable batteries will cost). I'll take the Harmon/Kardon any day of the week.
