Perfect for my needs

I have had a RCA system similiar to this. The tape deck stopped working and wrecked the tapes I had in there. Since it was a few years old, I chalked it up to "worn out". Purchased a second RCA unit and this one broke within the year. The CD's would not play. So, said to myself, you get what you pay for and I ordered this Sharp and I am as happy as "hair on a frog"! I am no music perfectionist, I just wanted something to play my oldies that I have on tapes and cd's and a radio that I might use.Have had this system for couple of days and so far, so good. Everything sounds great and even better, everything works!! I purchased this as a gift to myself on my 66th birthday and am thrilled with it.Update....Have had this for a little over a month and have run into a glitch that was not mentioned in the advertisement. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN OUTSIDE ANTENNA TO CONNECT IT TO. I cannot keep any non stereo station on for more than 10 minutes. Shuts the whole system down. After several conversations with techs at Sharp, they narrowed it down to need more power from an outdoor antenna. Now, in the world today, with satellite dishes and cable, who in the world still have an antenna connection?? I could have spent $69 for an RCA unit that at least had a radio that stayed on but instead, spent way over $200 for this piece of useless equipment. I am NOT HAPPY!!!!!

Good, but not great

Sound is good - bass and treble similar to other sets I have had in the past. It would have cost the company nothing to make the speaker wires two feet longer. As such one cannot place the speakers more than several inches from the main unit. Splicing new wire onto the speaker wires is easy enough, but I shouldn't have to do this. It cost $299, but the only difference I have found so far from the $177 unit is that it has jacks for headphones. For the price the cassette player should also record. For my location, the wire that serves as an FM antenna works fine. The tiny remote is hard to read and it is too easy to push the wrong buttons. I can only work it when a strong light is on it and I have to look close to see what I am doing. Yet , this seems to be the best set available. 20 years ago I bought several sets by different brands that were wonderful with great sound, full size remotes, cassette recorders, etc for only $200. Units such as these seem to be unavailable now. This unit is very lightweight and seems cheesy in comparison. but so far it works well. I guess the times are a changin'

plays nice, and by the way. It has AM/FM also. I bought it for a friend so she could give it to her husband for Christmas. He is very happy.
