Product Description

With dual woofers featuring high-output PolyPlas cones, and CMMD Lite tweeter domes with proprietary Bi-Radial waveguides, the JBL Studio 120c system is an ideal choice for the center-channel speaker in a multichannel home theater system – delivering the exceptional clarity, realism and bass response that a great center-channel speaker must. Voice-matched to other speakers in the JBL Studio 1 Series, and sharing the same dynamic new industrial design, the 120c renders the dialog, music and effects of even the most challenging movie soundtracks with confidence and style.

4Impressed and I'm hard to impress
By Timothy W. Long
I put this up against my Polk CS20 figuring it would be a light weight. I ran it as the main center for a week. The side speakers on my system are wall mounted Polks and the sides are a pair of old Energies. I figured that even if the speakers weren't voice matched, it would still be fun to give these a shot. I didn't expect much but much to my surprise, this has become my main center now.By rights these speakers shouldn't sound as good as they do. I have large speakers on the side and I like having the larger speakers in the centers to compensate. The JBL has smaller 4" speakers and an odd tweeter that is set at one side of the speaker instead of in the center. It has a pair of bars over it which must enhance the sound somehow. This speaker is heavy and I think that is what leads to such terrific sound. The voice timbre that comes out of this speaker is deep and rich. In comparison, the Polk sounds smaller and has much more mid and less bass. Even the family noticed the difference and commented that the JBL sounded better. The only thing I don't care for and I know this is just a personal nit pick. The design is odd. It has a larger speaker grill on the right and they are a pain to get off. If you look at the picture they do have sort of a futuristic look. I would have preferred a cleaner look with smooth lines. Still, the design does not take away from the speaker at all. When it comes to sound I am hard to impress. I'm no audiophile but I do know a good pair of speakers when I hear them. My old floor speakers were Monitor Audio's so I have no qualms about dropping the money on decent sound. I would recommend the JBL 120c any day of the week.Edit August 2012 - I am still using this speaker and I still think it's great. If anything, the sound has gotten fuller and smoother as the speaker was broken in. My entire system is Polk except for this center and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

5A Pleasant Surprise
By TMStyles
First, I readily admit that I am NOT an audiophile nor a sound "techie" so I will not relist the technical aspects of this JBL speaker that are contained in the above specs; therefore, I can only say that I like how it looks and how it sounds. I acquired this center channel speaker and added it to my 7.1 home multichannel surround system that contains different brand name speakers and a Sony receiver and Sony Blu-Ray--so nothing is matched by brand sequencing. This being said, the JBL Studio 120c has been a welcome addition and a surprise for its efficacy matched by its price, something I consider a real value. The unit is very rigid and sturdy at 18.6 pounds and clearly is solidly built. I find the distinctive JBL black weave design to be an intriguing addition to my system as it sits beneath my HD plasma TV and adds a classy decorative look to the whole setup. Obviously, it is magnetically shielded since it is so close to my video units. In addition to its front facing speakers, it sports a rear facing bass port that seems to add to the effectiveness of the center channel sound that I did not experience with my former center speaker. I am very pleased with the quality and richness of the sound from any spot in the large room where my system sits. Center channel sound, whether from sporting events on HD televison or engrossing Blu-Ray movies is clear, rich, realistic, and at times, attention grabbing. This non-techie highly recommends this center channel loud speaker.

5Crisp and clear, a terrific performer
By crouchingtiger
I purchased the JBL Studio 120c center channel and 130 bookshelf speakers to replace some admittedly lower-grade equipment (an older Cambridge Soundworks center channel and some good value but cheap Jensen speakers). I am using the 130s as the front-mains, as I have my home theater setup in a small room where bigger speakers would be overkill, and I am using a terrific Polk subwoofer to round out the lower frequencies.I have spent the last couple weeks watching a variety of movies and TV shows on the new setup and I have been incredibly happy with both JBL additions. The 120c puts out crisp and clear dialogue with a resonant voice timbre. The overall sound fidelity of the three speakers together is amazing. All the fine details of the Planet Earth Blu-Rays came through crystal clear (rustling leaves, crashing waves, etc.), and I was equally impressed with the quality of the music reproduction in movies with both orchestral and rock soundtracks. I was actually a little bit surprised and very pleased at the very obvious increase in sound quality over my previous speakers in that they themselves were a huge upgrade over the built-in speakers on my TV.The build on the speakers is top-notch. In fact, after receiving the 120c, I had no hesitation putting my 40" LCD TV (~45 lbs) directly on top of the speaker as that is the layout that is most convenient for me. I also find the styling to be very attractive in person, a point which I was nervous about while looking at the pictures. The speakers are distinctive while still remaining inobtrusive -- the matte finish on the plastic portions of the speaker grille was a great choice in this regard. In conclusion, I am extremely pleased with the quality of these speakers and would recommend them without hesitation. The price was also beyond reasonable. I will admit I have never owned "high-end" speakers costing many hundreds or thousands of dollars, but my checking account and I are relieved that with these JBL speakers I will not be tempted to go down that road for years to come.
