5Great sound; easy to set up
By Dean Frazier
Very pleased so far. Sounds great, plenty of power to rock your media room, and was easy to set up. There's an on-screen setup feature that lets you easily customize the setup for your particular room configuration. An included microphone lets you do a push-button fine-tuning of the sound relative to speaker placement. It's cool to see the system report exactly how far all the speakers are away from the microphone.I also purchased the wireless surround kit from Sony. Setup for this was also pretty simple, and was supported by the HDX500 system.Remote is typical Sony - lots of buttons. But fairly intuitive thus far.The digital media port works well with the different generations of iPods we have in the house. On-screen graphics are very rudimentary, however, which is a big departure from the iPod interface. There are a bunch of different sound fields that could be better described in the on-screen system or in the manual.

5Very Pleased
By S. Kuprel
Came within 36 hours of order. Shipper on east coast also. Set up with wiring, speakers, cable box and Logitech single remote took about 2 hours. All sound through the theater system produces great surround effects in a relatively large family room with open ceiling, even for selected TV channels! I have not tried the XM radio connection yet, still playing with the other functions, sound very good, DVD via HDMI excellent on a Samsung HDTV.

5"I" means it's Ipod Compatible
By Gerald A. Francis
The new DAV-HDX500/I comes with the iPod Digital Media Port cradle (TDM-IP1) that allows you to connect an iPod device. With the old model DAV-HD500, the iPod Digital Media Port cradle was an option you had to buy separately. Other than that, both models are identical in features.

5Outstanding Computer
By JOSE F. ESPINOZA
This is an amazing product. Not only super fast, with excellent screen resolution and very reliable but for sure the best that you can get for this Price. On top of that it comes with Windows 8 which believe me is simply fantastic and easy to use with your current mouse.I can see now everything in just one single dynamic tiles based home screen. My mail (all accounts), my messages, sports news, whats going on in Facebook, twitter etc.If you are considering buying a computer in this price range, this is by far the best choice.

4Overall, a great deal
By J. Linford
I purchased the IdeaPad Y580 model 59359513 directly from Lenovo. It came with a 1TB HDD, 8GB of RAM, a Blu-Rady/DVD-RW optical drive, and no mSATA. It replaced a 6-year-old ThinkPad T60p. I have been using my Y580 since late December, 2012. So far, it has been a very good computer. The Good:Fast ProcessorGreat graphics cardBeautiful full-HD displayBlu-Ray driveJBL speakersFast boot timeLarge hard driveBacklit keyboardThe not-so-good (but definitely not deal-breakers):Overall construction feels a little fragile, especially if you are used to a rugged ThinkPadKeyboard takes a little getting used toWindows 8 is a bit clunkyGenerates some heatA bit noisyCould use more RAMSome junkware, not enough useful software preloadedSize & weightSlow 5400 rpm hard driveThe Bad:Awful track-padGlossy screenDetailed review:On the plus side, this machine is very fast, both in terms of performance and boot time. The NVIDIA video card and on-board Intel GPU work beautifully together and provide great graphics. This is a great machine for work (astrophysics) and play (games and movies). The display is crisp and gorgeous, and games look stunning on it. The JBL speakers perform amazingly well. Honestly, this machine is worth the price just for the speakers. It came with a huge, but slow (5400 rpm), 1 TB hard drive (although there are 4 partitions pre-installed on it, which makes the usable size about 884 GB; and you would have to clear out and resize one partition if you wanted to dual-boot Linux). The machine is a little on the big and heavy side. But, it is supposed to be more of a desktop replacement than a mobile laptop. If you are looking for a machine to take on trips (especially when flying), this is probably not the best option.Unfortunately, the overall feel of the machine is a little cheap. However, this could just come from me comparing it to my old, rugged ThinkPad. I often feel the shell bending when I carry the laptop from room to room, and the keyboard flexes noticeably when I am typing. Also, the screen hinges are not very stiff and the screen shakes a bit even when on a sturdy desk. The machine generates a significant amount of heat and makes some annoying noises, but both of these are only really noticeable when you have it actually sitting on your lap. I wish it came with more RAM. Both the Lenovo and Crucial websites claim the max supported RAM for this machine is 8 GB. I have read on a couple online forums that it is possible to upgrade the RAM to 16 GB (usually the claim is that the European models are based on the same motherboard and they come with 16 GB of RAM), but I have not tried it myself. The new Windows 8 OS is not as bad as I feared it would be. It is a little clunky, though. I think Microsoft did their customers a serious disservice by getting rid of the Start button. Almost all of my complaints about the OS experience would have been avoided if they had just kept the Start button (and there are ways of putting it back, if you really just can't live without it). Overall, Windows 8 boots very fast, runs smoothly, and is not hard to get used to, but it does still feel like a beta release and often seems to have unnecessary steps for what used to be simple tasks (e.g., opening Notepad). The machine comes loaded with some junk software, but that is easy to fix (once you figure out how to get to the Control Panel under Windows 8). The real annoyance is that it did not come loaded with enough of the standard software. A great example of this is the lack of Adobe Reader. Instead, it came with Microsoft's terrible PDF Reader application (an app which is so poorly made that I think it should be classified as a war crime). Again, a minor complaint and easily fixed. There are only two genuinely bad aspects of this computer. First, the track-pad is absolutely awful. It is oversensitive in some spots and not sensitive enough in others. It seems to love the Windows 8 Charms menu and takes you there whenever you make the smallest mistake in movement. Clicking and dragging is often tricky and unpleasant. I highly recommend getting an external mouse with this machine. Second, the glossy screen is like a mirror. Even in a dim office, you can see your reflection. I honestly do not know why there is such a fad for glossy displays in the computer world right now. A matte screen is so much more useful in ALL settings.Overall:I definitely like this computer and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great work-horse/gaming/entertainment laptop. It has some shortcomings, but for the price it is by far the best machine out there. To get a similar laptop from any other manufacturer would cost you at least $400 over the price of a Y580. I have yet to have any real problems with mine.

5Excellent! Awesome sound - and easy to setup!
By Ankit S. Malpani
Looking for a Home Theater wasn't the easiest initially - since there are many many choices. The choices need to be narrowed down on basis of three things:1)Budget (how much are you ready to spend)2)Size of the room - where the home theater will be set3)HTIB or build your own ( buy a separate A/V reciever and separate speakers)I live in a small manhattan apartment (1000 sq feet) and had a minimal budget of around $700. I also had a few conditions that I definitely wanted a home theater with an A/V reciever (for future flexibility). My biggest priority was very good sound quality for movies, music and games on my 46 inch LCD. (Didn't care much about fm reciever/ipod dock etc).before I started my search, I was biased towards Sony and Bose - and wasn't even considering Samsung. However after testing - I was very dissapointed with Sony's systems (This one is far superior). The two systems from bose that I liked were very expensive ($2700 and $3300).After about two/three weeks of heavy testing, only two systems provided extremely good sound quality and were under $700 (which I thought were apt for a small sized apartment/living room).- Samsung HW-C650S (this product)- Sony HTCT-500 (Sound bar)After a little more testing, I liked Samsung better. The sound is pretty crisp from both systems, but it is awesome to have rear speakers that produce the Surround sound.Sound Quality-For my living room (around 1000 sq.ft), the sound has been awesome.-Most of the SONY systems had an issue: The sound is too loud during the action sequences in movies/games. However, the sound is very low during a dialogue scene. Hence, you need to increase the volume to listen to the dialogues, but decrease it back when a loud explosive scene comes on.I havent seen this issue in Samsung. It delivers a strong sound durinng action sequences and also a crisp/clear sound during a dialogue scene.-Good base, various sound themese like (music, movie, game etc)Ease of use:-I set this up in about an hours time and it started working like a charm. No real issues so far.Another advantage:-This system has an A/V reciever. So for any new buys in the future, I can still use it. ( a new Blu ray player, new TV, new speakers etc)-It is really well priced. (Just for $400 I think, it is an awesome system)-4 HDMI inputs-works very well, with a samsung TV.some improvements:-This comes with an iPod dock. However, I cannot select a playlist to play. It starts playing the library automatically. This is not a big issue but an annoyance. Hopefully samsung is looking into this and updates the firmware soon.

4My first home theater system...and it's a pretty good one
By SmiBurHo
My wife and I just moved into our first house and after years of living in a cramped apartment, I was finally able to splurge on entertainment products for our living room. While I've done a ton of research for nearly everything else in my set-up, I took a chance on this system and am reasonably happy so far.For whatever reason, I've bought nothing but Samsung products for our living room. 52" LCD TV and Blu-Ray player. I figured I'd stick to the same name brand for the HTIB system. On the plus side, the sound quality is pretty solid, especially during sporting events. It's really, really nice. Music sounds fine on it, too. The set-up was fairly painless, as long as you follow the instructions closely. I love that it has 4 HDMI inputs, which is great since I have a cable box, Xbox 360 and Blu-Ray player. It makes it far easier to change inputs, compared to having to navigate HDMI inputs with the television's own controller. I was absolutely blown away by the sound of the system when playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Fantastic stuff. My living room is a very odd shape and design, and for that reason I'm glad this system has the ASC device to balance the sound. Picture if you will a rectangle on its side. My TV is in the upper right corner. A bay window takes up nearly the entire right wall. The top/north wall has a fireplace that juts out. The bottom/south wall is where one couch is, but the staircase to go up stairs is behind it, so there's actually only 1/2 a wall there. The left/west wall has a love seat, and the south-left corner leads directly into the kitchen area. That made it incredibly difficult to figure out where exactly to place the speakers. The ASC mic did a pretty good job getting the volume levels from each speaker balanced. I just wish there were a way to figure out the best speaker positioning without spending money to have some Geek Squad guy come out to the house. On the downside, the rear speakers aren't wireless, although the cable is certainly long enough. When hung on the wall, the speakers also don't have an indentation to run the wire through, so the speakers hang on the wall weirdly. The system can't expand to 7.1 channels, but I knew that when I purchased it. The system is fairly new, so my Harmony One remote had to be manually programmed. This has lead to a few occasions where the AVR doesn't change inputs, despite repeatedly hitting buttons on the remote. Occasionally during commercials on TV, the sound will momentarily drop out for a second or so. I can't explain that one. I'm also amazed by the amount of dust the speakers and AVR attract. My wife and I keep our house spotless, but dust still finds its way to the system and it's hard not to notice it on the shiny surfaces. Despite my best efforts, it seems like everything is covered in dust by the end of the day.I also have a Nintendo Wii, which has a composite output, and I still can't figure out how to connect it to the AVR. The video inputs are there for a composite connection, but I'm unclear where the audio gets plugged in. I'm not a fan of the iPod connection, either. Once you connect an iPod or iPhone, there's no way to select a song or playlist or anything....the device just plays. I had to set the AVR to "Video iPod" in order to navigate the iPod and play the music/playlist I wanted to. A minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless. As this is my first HTIB, I really enjoy the HW-C560S and I hope to get quite a few good years out of it. That said, my next home theater purchase will be a larger, better set-up that works better with the living room.

5Nice Receiver With My New Samsung 63" Plasma HDTV
By BRJR
This receiver comes with a 6 Speakers-set (as shown); and, the sound is remarkably good. Only thing, I don't like, is that I seem to have erroneously believed the rear speakers were wireless, but so far, I have been unable to figure out how; and, folks at Samsung USA, were of no help, because they are not even aware that this Samsung theater set, is even out yet (their site, says: "It's Coming")--- seems, that Amazon.com, is among the first to have received this new Samsung product line, so far. My satellite TV engineer that installs and configures my samsung and other such products ---- is very pleased with the simplicity of this speaker system and how well it integrates with my other Samsung products via HDMI and even component hook-up. Very low cost, but excellent receiver and speakers system to use with the more modern Samsung Plasma / LCD Wide Screen HDTVs and Samsung (Samsung, for benefits of the HDMI CEC feature) or other modern components with HDMI connections. For Samsung users, there's likely no other modern 5.1 channel Stand-a-lone Receiver/speaker system of this superb quality and price, so thanks Samsung, and also thanks to Amazon.com, for being among the first to have received this new Samsung system.

1Pretty pathetic system if you ask me.
By James
I am a former BOSE Acustimass 10 owner. When i got into Home theater, I was a newbie and pretty much bought into the marketing power of BOSE. They had the nice little Demonstration stands at Best Buy and at Fry's Electronics, they have the Soundroom that is tweaked to make the Bose sound incredible. Problem is, that room costs hundreds of thousands of dollars of technology to make the BOSE Accoutimass speakers sound that good. I don't have $$$,$$$.$$ to spend on a room. You need to see the EQ equiptment in that room.

Safe to say, I was slightly dissappointed then these speakers did not sound as good in my house as in the store. Still un-deterred, I figured it was my room (of course, it can't be as good as THAT sound room) and they still sound better then some other satellites speakers (though not by much) is why i justifying paying a much higher price.Little unknown fact: These little cubes cost BOSE about $35.00 to make each double cube speaker. (5x35 = 175.00 plus probably 75 for the bassmodule = $250. This means on a $1000.00 system, the retailer and BOSE is pocketing $750.00 of your dollars)You can buy replacement drivers on the web for about $35.00 per pair. They are paper cones and plastic casing. http://layneaudio.hypermart.net/specials.htm

The most important thing is, if you have a decent A/V Receiver, you should be able to select "Source Direct" which means the Reciever acts as a pass through, adding no EQ to the music, and just supplies power to the speakers. When playing anything in "Source Direct" mode, these BOSE speakers were the same as a cheap clock radio or the TV speakers. Actually, the TV speakers on my Sony Vega was better. Only if you use EQ, like Jazz Club, or Stereo or something like that did the speakers a little better. This is for music.I am glad for 1 thing. I was not duped into getting a Bose Lifestyle system. My AVR and DVD separates are much better then the lifestyle box. I mean.. come on BOSE, can't you put a Progressive Scan DVD player in it?

For HT, the accoustimass is slightly better. since they do play squeakly noises good, you are able to get pretty good glass breaking sounds. This is because BOSE has almost no lower midrange sounds to speak of. This way, the sqeaky highs are of course going to sound more defined. The Bass module is way underpowered. You will never get the feel like a real subwoofer. Thats a little dissappointing with the movies and no "boom" effect during explosions. Almost everyone who keeps the AM system will get 1 or 2 subwoofers. (250 to 500 a piece). At that point, you are already almost in 1500.00 area. That puts you direct against some "reference" lines of Klipsch and Polk Audio.

Still, i was not so upset to return the system. I pretty much decided that all speaker systems sound good at the store, but will lose something at the house. It wasn't until recently when I started to learn more about speakers like Polk Audio and Klipsch did I realize what I was missing out on. I bought a new speaker system and sold this BOSE system on EBAY. I am happy that BOSE has good re-sell value due to their extensive marketing. I have a new klipsch system which forced me to re-listen to every music CD that I had to see what i have been missing all this time. Its truly incredible. I had to re-watch my movies on DVD and they all seem more alive and exciting. Much more like the theater. To say the least, if you only listen to BOSE or the stuff at Best Buy, you have little to compare with. The better audio stuff is only a few dollars more, are more flexible and deliver superior performance for the dollar. I guess BOSE will sound better then those cheap 200.00 systems, but only marginally better. I bought a cheap kenwood 206 system for my mother. It under $250.00 and it was very comparable to this Bose system for $999.99 and it came with a A/V Receiver!!! What are you paying for? I guess the rights to those 4 letters... B-O-S-E. For my money... BOSE is not much different from WOES.

4Satisfied
By B. Coburn
I have always run all of my media through my pc and my former speaker set (a Midiland 5.1 system) was thoroughly aged and falling apart I decided it was time to upgrade. I wanted something that had incredible sound with both music and dvd's. I shopped around and came to the conclusion I would aim for the form factor speakers. When considering this bose system, this MUST be taken into account.First off, this system is expensive. For just under 1000 dollars (doesn't 999 sound sooo much better than 1g?) you get 5 bi-directional midrange speakers, the subwoofer unit, and speaker cable. At this price it is very disappointing that bose does not include some sort of receiver, but no matter this leaves room for the customer to customize his/her choice to suit any personal needs and/or budget. Bose includes 3 colors (white, silver, black) and all the speakers are well packaged and aesthetically pleasing with the exception of the sub unit (a large rectangular box meant to save space but does not). What brought me to look into this system was the specific size of the speakers and there general attractiveness. For their size the bose do a very good job of reproducing any sound-granted they are paired with a competent receiver. Anyone who has any qualms about this system should first consider what they are running their sound through, without competent equipment these speakers will not be on par with what you heard in the store.Once I got the system home it was very easy to set up and install. Bose packages the speakers with clear instructions and all of the wires are meant to be hidden and include markings as to what speakers they belong to-a very handy feature especially when one is trying to hide this system. The only serious issue I have with this system ended up being with my receiver (an Onkyo) and not related at all with the speakers.Since I do run this through my computer (presently a laptop) I had a few troubles setting up a new sound card and getting it too mesh with my receiver, but when that was all said and done, I was extremely please with the system. With a bose the tweaking one needs to do is very minimal and thus why this deserves the higher price tag-its target audience is usually those more affluent and unable to spend hours tweaking individual speaker levels and sound ranges. My test soundtracks included: Gladiator, Matrix (II or III), Snatch, and music tracks ranging from techno, rock, classical, and alternative. Everything sounded great with enough low, high, and midrange response. The second complaint I have with this system is not differentiating in the least between any of the satellites. I found myself turning the response on the center channel up so the front speakers weren't drowning out the voices. That was solved with a little tweaking so nothing major there. All in all this speaker system is a great investment in my mind satisfying all of my needs (though draining my bank account) and providing me with great surround sound.Good: Great range and volume of sound. Easy set-up. Well built speakers-aesthetically and physically. No interference or feedback.Bad: Subwoofer awkward, no dedicated center channel, pricey, no included receiver. For their size these speakers more than compete with any full-blown tower 5.1 system. Here is one satisfied customer.

2Terrible sound with no mid-range
By Just a guy
I am not sure why everyone has such a love affair with Bose speakers. Perhaps it is the marketing or the fact that the bass module produces a lot of bass (although it is not very accurate.) The largest problem with these speakers is that there is absolutely zero mid-range. The highs are decent and the lows are powerful, but there is nothing in the middle - zilch. Nada. I would not recommend buying these speakers. There are many better systems out there for the same money.

4Great Home Theatre System for the price
By Shane
I bought this system about three weeks ago and I have to say I am very pleased with my purchase. For the price I paid, I could not go wrong. I did a lot of research and I was looking for a nice surround sound with speaker and sub for a decent price. I hit the mark with this system! I paid $244.00 for this system and the day after I purchased it the price went up to $399! It was all that I could ask for in a surround sound system for that price! It is a 600 watt system (each speaker is 100 watts). I have a smaller living room so once I ran the cables in the walls and mounted the speakers, the sound engulfs you and you feel like you are part of any movie that you watch. The speakers are very sleek and are on the small size, which is what I wanted. I did not want to mount huge speakers next to my flat screen TV. They look awesome. The sub is passive so you don't have a power cable for the device, which is what I like. It comes with an ASC mic so it auto calibrates the sound output, but to be honest, I went in and tweaked the output to my desires as I wanted the rear speakers to be a bit louder. It also comes with an iPod dock, which I have yet to use, but will eventually. This is also a 3D pass through device which was a need since I own a Samsung 51" 3D Plasma TV and a PlayStation 3. I have yet to try the 3D capabilities as I just purchased the 3D TV, but that will happen soon. All in all I think this was a great purchase at the price I paid. Would I have paid $399 for this system, hmmm, maybe and maybe not? I would have to compare what this offers to similar devices at the same price...and at this point I am done doing research :-) All I know is that I couldn't pass it up for $244.00!The only negatives for this system are the speaker wires it comes with are flimsy, so do yourself a favor like I did and purchase better speaker wires. Believe me it is worth it for the 15 bucks. I tested the system with the cables included and then with 16 gauge wires I bought and the difference is night and day! Also, the system doesn't appear to operate in standby, not a big deal to me, but someone may want this feature. The last negative for this product is that it doesn't seem to have a remote code for my Comcast remote control, which means I have to use the remote control that came with it to turn the system on and off and to toggle the inputs. This is not fun, but it's not a deal breaker for the price.Hope this helps and happy hunting.

4Good system, good sound, great value..
By Jerry P
I've had this product for almost a month and very happy with the purchase. My set-up: 46" Samsung LCD, cable box and PS3 system. Speakers are ceiling-mounted and am using thick gauge speaker wire (not the stock wires). The unit itself is pretty easy to set up and calibrate; it can auto-calibrate sound level/distance using the included mic or you can adjust manually. Not an expert but it has the common audio processing formats (Dobly, DTS, etc..) and has cool up-converting features (eg. 2-channel to 5.1, 5.1 to 7.1, etc.). also, a menu screen pops up on your tv so that makes setup easier. the hardest thing is learning what all the features do, haha.Sound quality is very good; has good depth and the bass is definitely there but it could use a bit more crispness in the treble range. I installed my system in 15'x17' room and the 100watts/channel is MORE than adequate as it gets pretty loud. It also has 3D sound but I haven't really used this feature so can't provide feedback. Some bad/annoying things are the iPod player and "built-in Wifi." It comes with an iPod dock but you can't choose what to play on the iPod as the screen is unusable when plugged. Still looking into this issue but maybe its just me. Also, Samsung's website says it has built-in WiFi but there's no mention in the owner manual or anyway to config/access in the actual unit. Haven't found any info on this yet either.I'm very happy with the purchase and it gets 4-stars cause i purchased for less than $250! For what I paid, i got everything i needed plus ALOT of added features and extra perks. If it would've cost more than $300, then its in the 3-star range. Overall, if you're looking for solid, mid-level theater system then this will likely meet your needs.

4good receiver, not perfect, weak speakers
By yuri
its a big receiver, ATX pc size, the DAC cant process 192khz sources, thats a shame.also, you cant say it decodes real DTS master audio sound. since its up to 96khz, and the fact there is no DTS mstr on the receiver screen(it appears DTS-HD), makes me think it only decodes DTS high resolution audio(but the receiver say DTS master). asked samsung for that, and they dont say anything.the spekers are weak too, no tweeters and passive sub. im using with pc and for gaming, blu ray, mkv, music CD, SACD(converted to pcm), its everything okay. it has a coaxial input so is good for pcs motherboards and philips tvs.
