5Amazing Receiver that runs COOL!!!
By A. Khole
I purchased this receiver last week (from another website - not from Amazon) and spent a good day or two performing the initial setup and hooking up various components and tweaking the setup to make the speakers sound to my liking. Once you get a hang of the setups, it's good-but it can be overwhelming for someone who is new to this.So far, I've tried to use many of the features offered by this receiver and put it to test and it has exceeded expectations in all categories.Initial Setup: Using the Auto MCACC was good, but the sub-woofer was not auto configured. I had to set it up manually, which was not a big deal. Though I had to figure out the menu's and where this setup is performed and all that. Even after the initial setup was performed, I had tweaked some settings on the other channels to make them sound better IMO. The UI seems old - if Pioneer can provide an software update to better the UI - it'll be perfect. Make the UI look good. :)AUDIO: Power delivery is perfect. My Klipsch WF-35 speakers started sounding different (in a really good way) when compared to my old Onkyo receiver. I mean the sound difference was immediate, apparent and pleasingly great. I just can't stop cranking up the volume and hearing my music. My speakers are sounding so different that I feel that I've purchased a new set of speakers. Even after cranking the volume for a long period of time - say 4-5 hours, the receiver is way cool (temperature wise) - Class D amplifiers!!!VIDEO: Netflix and Blu-ray movies played excellent. Played some videos from my iphone & youtube from my phone and the up-scaling was good. Haven't yet tried playing older video formats thru it yet to see how it fairs.PANDORA: Works nice!!! the only issue is creating your stations from the receiver can be a pain. Best do it thru your phone or computer and then select the newly created station. However, I am not a fan of the Graphic User Interface on the TV.Internet: Once you connect the receiver thru Ethernet cable, you can stream music from online radio. This is a cool feature. In terms of connectivity this receiver offers so many options and you can hook up a bunch of different components. I'm yet to setup Zone 2 speakers and sub, but once I hook those up, I'll try out the Zone speaker function.Overall - I'm really impressed with this receiver and would recommend it to other buyers in the Market for a mid-range receiver. Also, since I'm upgrading from my Onkyo entry-level receiver after 5 years or so, I'm really amazed with the features and the stuff you can do with this receiver. It was a big technology upgrade for me and some features really stood out. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RECEIVER. Pioneer has done a great job with this receiver. One more thing I wish to point out, when purchasing this receiver, I had compared it with Pioneer SC-61 and frankly - I could not differentiate how these two receivers are different (except SC-61 is ELITE range and SC-1222 is not). But specs wise both are identical.Other receivers I was considering were Pioneer SC-61, Denon AVR2313CI, Marantz SR6007, Yamaha Aventage RX-A820BL. I tested out all for a good while at a mortar and brick store before making the purchase online (got a great deal for this receiver).Update: 10/29/2012 - There is a separate Pioneer Bluetooth Adapter that I bought which enables me to play my music from my phone or my friends phones without physically connecting the phone to the receiver. Also the Pioneer AV app is great for controlling this network enabled phone. One disadvantage in my mind is that you have to turn ON the receiver before you can use the app. You cannot turn on the receiver from the app, but you can turn it off using the app. Other than that you can do standard features and also audio mode selects from the app. This is good app if I'm in another room and controlling my receiver.

ED OPTIONS (audio, video, remote, streaming... etc), AFTER THIS YOU'LL BE PLEASED WITH YOUR NEW TOY..!1- Tecnologically it's really impressive, it streams flawlessly evry type of media from any PC of my network, but if you have "A LOT" of songs or interpretes, it could be a little hard to make a quick search.Pandora works perfect but you'll prefer to create stations at you PC.I can command most of the functions of the Pioneer SC1222 from my android phone with the icontrol APP, and can stream songs from my PC to the SC1222 right from my phone screen with the media house app. I have to admit that it's APPLE oriented ;-(This amplifier works surprisingly cold for the power handled...!!!From 1 to 10: 9.52-Audio...I'm ussing a couple of Polk RTiA7 (bi-amped) in the front, Wharfedales diamonds for center and rear and a JBL sub. I doesn't like very much the auto calibration system, it lack of bass an maybe some life in my opinion. The option for audio EQ, Delay, Speaker system, Distance, etc, etc, etc (many etc)... are really exquisit and detailed but not very easy to modify while you are listening or viewing something. It have a lot of DOLBY SURROND options (old and new)..!The power is good enough to rock my RTia7 which are power demmanding. Be carefuly with the EQ because if you overbass, it tends to distort a little at high volume, mediums and highs are flawless.!One of the things I enjoy most is listening to CD's and MP3 in simple stereo, equalizer and diversity of settings available, sweeten your ears for hours. The audio restoration for MP3 is very good too.. it really bring back to life the compressed files (you'll be surprissed). From 1 to 10: 93-Video... IMPRESSIVE the upscaling work really good, the Qdeo processor makes an excellent job when streaming video from internet (netflix, youtube, etc)it restores the brightness and color, even the DVD looks much better after processing. From 1 to 10: 104-The remote is complete, I'm commanding my Panasonic TV and Sony BD whith this, but could be difficult to use in dark rooms because all the buttons are alike and have more than one function (missing back light). From 1 to 10: 6The front and knobs look sleek and good, but I expected metal instead of plastic.

4Runs cool. Still has ugly GUI and crazy remote.
By Jay Thornock
Before this receiver, I owned the VSX-1121. Audibly, they are very similar and I honestly don't think I could identify one over the other. This one does seem to be a bit louder at lower volumes. Connectivety and functionality appear to be almost completely the same. They are even visually difficult to distinguish. The one big difference is efficiency and heat. After watching the Avengers Blu-ray at a fairly loud -10 db volume level, the top of the SC-1222 was much cooler than the VSX-1121. The only identifiable heat on the top of the unit was from the enormous transformer on the left front side. No heat is detectable elsewhere on the unit. The transformer does appear to be much larger than the VSX-1121 transformer and the unit does weigh a little more. The GUI is still not overlay capable, meaning you have to completely leave what you are watching in order to access the main menu. That menu is also still quite ugly and old looking. An $1,100 MSRP receiver should do a little better these days, in my opinion. Advanced MCACC still views both my subs as a single sub, meaning the second sub connection is basically an internal y-adapter.Overall, I really am enjoying the sounds quality and the unit in general. The remote, GUI, and a few other things are just old and disfunctional. I picked it up for $599 and feel it was a good purchase at that price. Four stars for a good product, with lots of features, that could use a little more polish.
