5Corsair SP2500: Incredible Value
By D. Snow
I'm going to preface review by saying that, while I'm not an audiophile, I have substantially more knowledge than the average consumer about audio equipment. Buying new headphones and speakers is kind of my hobby.I've now had my SP2500 for approximately a week, giving me ample time to test them out with a variety of music genres and inputs. I listen to classical music, hip hop, electronic, and some alternative rock. It handles all these with amazing detail and clarity. The bass is deep and powerful, but not overbearing in the slightest, thanks to each individual speaker getting its own amplifier. The SP2500 also retains clarity at 100% volume, which is extraordinarily loud (I like my music loud overall, and it even had me flinching). I generally like to keep it around 70% to 80% when I want to play loud, and it's enough to fill my house without hurting my ears. This system comes with an 8" side-firing subwoofer, and the thing is absolutely gigantic. Looking at pictures of it online will not prepare you. It's not a problem for me, but if you are severely constrained with your space, it's definitely something to consider. It also has two satellites, each with a 3" driver to carry the midrange and a 1" tweeter to sustain the highs. A fantastic thing about these speakers is that every frequency stays where it should be at any volume level. For example, on many computer speakers/iPod docks, the bass becomes disproportionately lower as the volume goes down overall. Not with these.I don't play PC games, but I do play my 360. Hooking these up and playing Halo Reach was amazing. When a grenade went off near me, I didn't just hear it, I felt it. And even though this is a 2.1 system, direction was still easy to pinpoint. While I can't speak highly enough about these speakers, if I had to pick out a flaw, it would be that songs that have a heavy midrange (like rock) sound slightly muffled. But really, that's only in comparison to the sky-scraping standards of the rest of this system; rock sounds better on this than any other computer speakers or iPod dock I've heard, so it's still the best you can get. When it comes to my hip hop, I'm a bit of a bass-head. While I don't want it to overpower the mids and highs, I want to feel it. Let me tell you from experience, this is the best bass you can get on any computer system or iPod dock at ANY price point. It's deep and low and incredibly multi-faceted. And when I blast Tupac's "Changes" at 80%, I can feel the bass vibrating my clothes while the piano notes stay crisp. It's amazing.I was able to compare it to other bass-oriented systems, too; a friend lives in the back of my house, and he's been going through different iPod docks trying to find the right one. He had the Altec Lansing inMotion MIX iPod dock, and my system handily defeated it in all areas. After having to return the MIX three times to Amazon because of defects, he finally ordered the Beats by Dre dock. I was a little worried... was this where he would finally find the bass to overpower mine? The answer? Absolutely not. The bass doesn't hit as hard and sounds muddy when compared to the SP2500 (though bass is still good compared to other docks... it's just no contest in comparison to the SP2500), and the mids and highs were really compromised on his system. The Beats dock didn't even get as loud as the SP2500, which surprised me a little.I'm rambling now, so I'll try to end this quickly. Simply put, this system is the best audio purchase I have ever made. It is great for all types of music and video games at any audio level. And if you love bass, this can definitely provide that; it easily bests systems that are two or three times the price of this that are specifically built for that purpose! Words really can't describe how much I love these. If you're at all on the fence, order these (whether they're for your TV, computer, or even MP3 player) and try them out. Don't take my word for it. These are the best value in any speaker system at any price. Do it. You know you want to.

5Great Setup....little pricey, but worth it.
By Adam Cihon
I bought these speakers for both PC and Xbox 360 use, as well as music and movies.Build Quality: Excellent. The subwoofer is made of sturdy wood and weighs a ton. The satellites are a perfect balance of hefty quality plastic and being too light. It has a total of three inputs which is nice. The desktop controller allows you to switch between them all. The free rca and pc cables are a thoughtful touch.Sound Quality: Excellent. Its amazing how clear and how 3D this 2.1 setup seems. I've been playing Bioshock 2 and the little sisters singing are awesome. In Halo Reach I can hear where the enemy is. Music has great clarity as well as punchiness. My wife's favorite part is the late night setting shifts the base from the subwoofer to the satellites.Price: 260 is what I paid (with shipping), but that was the week they came out. If they were closer to 215 this would be on everyone's desk. Ultimately, I'd buy them again in a heartbeat.

5Corsair Speakers
By T. Cunningham
I read a review of these speakers in Maximum PC magazine. I needed a new set, and while they were more than I wanted to pay, I thought I would give them a try. I'm very glad I did. They sound excellent. They are easy to hook up, don't take up much space (except for the sub), and the desktop controller makes it easy to adjust the volume or settings. My only complaint is that I didn't realize how big the sub is. It was a little challenging finding a good spot for it, but it's my fault for not reading the specs closely enough.Overall, these are an excellent set of speakers, and I would highly recommend them to anyone interested in a quality sound system for their computer.

5Hi quality sound & video, as expected
By M. T. Baker
I've had this receiver & its ipod dock for about 45 days. Picked this one over the 663 for its video upscaling. I use it mainly for watching dvds and ipod videos, streaming netflix, and listening to ipod and HD radio music.Pros: Quality of sound and video output met my high expectations. (I'm biased toward Yamaha already FWIW). Surround fields are versatile & distinct. The enhancer modes are fantastic for low volume listening. Headphone listening is stellar. Config menus are straightforward. YPAO was easy to set up, though I wound up tweaking rear speaker adjustments up a bit as personal preference. The remote runs all our gear. I dusted off old concert and movie DVDs and this receiver makes them seem new again.Cons: No macro mode on the remote to power everything on & off with one button. HD radio control is not intuitive. So far I haven't figured out if I can navigate a docked ipod's menus with my TV osd which would be nice.Bottom line: I saved up and looked at a LOT of receivers before choosing this one, and I'm not disappointed at all. The RX-V863 is everything advertised and lives up to Yammy's top shelf reputation.

5Like no other!!! Why buy any other?
By G. Nguyen
Best receiver for the money. Why buy a Denon 3808 when you can buy this one for a lot less AND it does the same things? 1080P upconversion, 3 HDMI's, easy setup menu, LOADS and LOADS of more features. Put new life into my speakers. 7.1 AND Zone 2! HD radio built-in!!!This thing was very straightforward to install and setup. The only part that I needed to consult the manual about was the HD radio, otherwise, it was easy.Highly recommended!!!

4Excellent receiver
By Victor and Barri Schledt
This is a great receiver. Sound is excellent, easy to use, good remote, the Ipod dock works great, HD radio is great, and the HDMI works well with 1080p. Works great with my Mac Mini.Replaced a JVC RXD412B that I bought last year with this unit. The JVC remote was difficult to use with FM and the JVC receiver just didn't sound very good. (You get what you pay for) The JVC replaced my old Yamaha receiver from 1990 that still works great but does not provide AV capability.Would give a five star rating if the on screen features were better. On screen menus look like old DOS but they work OK.Overall the unit is a great value. Amazon shipping was great.

5Onkyo's Powerhouse Receiver
By BeyondHD
I'm going to be honest, this is my first Onkyo receiver. As a owner of other great receivers from Denon & Yamaha, I was looking for a new powerful receiver, the Onkyo TXNR818 was just what I was looking for. Is 1 of 4 high-end audio receivers from Onkyo (2012), this is a 7.2ch receiver with 135w x 7ch of pure muscle. It packs the latest surround formats including the new DTS NEO: X and has the latest Audyssey MULTEQ XT32 calibration tool on which you'll get outstanding performance and some improvements over the original MULTEQ. At this price range Onkyo was able to put as many features as possible including; THX Select 2 Plus Certified, HDMI Support for 3D Video, 9.1 Pre Outs for audio and future expandability, Dual Core Video Engine with HQV Vida and Marvell Qdeo Processing just to name a few. Before I let you know how this receiver performs , there are some minor drawbacks you should know. First, this receiver lacks AirPlay Support, wi-fi and bluetooth (a wireless and bluetooth adapter is sold separately) which I found inexcusable at this price; take note Onkyo, the new Sony STR-DN1030 offer these great features for a unit half the price. Second, the remote control is not fully backlit and while the GUI display is easy to navigate is far from the quality of those found on Yamaha or Denon receivers, in fact its a shame that it has a low resolution GUI and the icons are very ugly. This is one heavy receiver, over 40 pounds, 17 inches (wide) x 17 (depth) x 7 1/2 (heigth), is even deeper than my Def Tech StudioMonitor 65, so a very strong space in your entertainment center should be considered. Another thing that capture my atention was that the volume knob felt a bit loose and to soft. For some strange reason every time you adjust the tone controls the receiver cuts the audio for about a second, this issue has been reported in some forums.Movie Performance:There are a lot of Blu Ray movies that can be used as reference for audio and video, Battle LA & MI: Ghost Protocol are an example of pure surround madness. The alien invasion sounded clean, powerful and robust. The battle scene on the highway bridge is spectacularly loud and bombastic, the DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack rattles walls with a thunderous, authoritative low end. The rear effects are discrete and precise, generating an immersive 360-degree soundfield. The explosion of the Kremlin in MI:GP will shake your ground, and talked about the sandstorm scene in Dubai, you better have some goggles like Tom Cruise had. The sound of the wind and sand particles moving across my living room was an experience. 03/16/2013 Update - Listen to these other BD chapters, Transformers Rise of the Fallen / the fight in the forest is simply awesome and crunching, Looper / sweet deep bass in chapter 13, Minoroty Report / the force wave shotgun, one word Boombastic!!!. The 2012 version of Red Dawn sounded magnificent, the fire fight scenes and explosions are a thrilling experience and the TXNR818 will make you run for cover.Music Performance:Listening to Jason Mraz's The Freedom Song (live) sounded natural, the TXNR818 rendered it all very clearly and in distinct with excellent separation of the instruments, you can close your eyes and literally feel the music right in front of you, also the voices are heard clean and vivid. I love Latin jazz so there is nothing better than listening to Eddie Palmieri's Album CD Arete. Congas and timpani discharge have a fascinating sound and to some extent may feel natural bass that emit between the clash of the Palm of the hand and the leather of the congas, the detail that capture the TXNR818 is amazing. In conclusion the TXNR818 is a great overall receiver, it has excellent video performence, powerful clean sound and plenty of inputs. So far I have been playing with this montrous AVR for over seven months and I have done 2 firmware updates with no problems to report. I could be talking about other great features, like ISF calibration tools, XT32, DTS Neo: X, THX and more, but I'm the kind of person that will tell you to test this great AVR for yourself and make your own judgement. Some people have complaint about faulty units, but make sure you buy one from an authorize dealer to avoid any upset. Onkyo has done a great entrance in the audiophile world, and even that there are plenty areas were Onkyo can improve, they have done an excellent job to have a truly high-end receiver bellow the $1,000 mark.Like they say "High-End Home Theater Performance Starts Here" and sure it does.

5I am impressed!
By Richyi
Years ago, after researching and much reading I decided that Denon receiver was the best. The old model, AVR 3808CI, 130 Watt, 39lb, only had 4 HDMI so I started looking to update to a new receiver. The first thing I turned to was another Denon AVR-2312CI with 7 HDMI inputs, 105 watts per channel, Air Play etc for $924 inc tax at local Best Buy.First thing I noticed was how light it was compared to my older Denon. Heavy does not mean better but in amplifiers, the important component is the power transformer and a robust transformer will be heavy.Upon hooking up the 2312, my first listening test was disappointing. Not much better than my former Denon and perhaps not as good. So I returned the 2312 to Best Buy and start my search again. After extensive search, the Onkyo line interested me the most.Initially, I was attracted to TX-NR717 125 watts and 7.2. Then I chanced on to TX-NR818.It is 135 watts, 9.2, 40lb and more electronic features stuffed into it than you can imagine! I was a little concerned because the more stuff they put in, more chance of conflicts, bugs and nagging problems. The NR818 is the latest model and some websites list it but not available yet.I found one at Amazon and I decided to order one for $1099 and with LAN adapter and 12 sets of banana plug it came to $1151.Now here is the bottom line. After setting up the Receiver with Sony DVD/CD player, Time Warner DVR, XBox 360, PS3 and Apple TV, I put in my favorite CD and turned it on.When I heard the sound, my initial reaction was WOW! I looked at my wife and she agreed the sound was fantastic! The best way that I can explain the sound is it's clear, clean, pristine. And without going through the speaker set up routine, my Aperion speaker system with center channel and a sub-woofer put out a sound I never heard before and all channels well balanced! One surprising extra to the NR818 is the video. When I view Time Warner programs, I have to say "man look at that color!" The rendering of all the colors are 100% improvement! Focus is sharper, all the color seem more true to life. Red are redder, blue are bluer and the flowers and trees pop out at you.As you can see, I am very impressed with Onkyo NR818. There are tons of features and adjustments that I have not tested and tried but my initial impressions are that they will all work well.If my comments need updating, I will here.In the meantime, I'd certainly recommend Onkyo NR818 as one of your consideration.Richyi

4Needs More Firmware Updates
By Brandon
While the TX-NR818 is a great AVR for the price and does the basics flawlessly, it does have some issues that need to be addressed. On the good side of things, this Onkyo sounds wonderful. I was skeptical upgrading from a TX-SR805 that this would be able to compare to that unprecedented beast, but it has. Although the 818 does sound generally a little quieter than the 805, I could hardly call it underpowered and a little boost to the volume (or use of IntelliVolume) fixes that issue. Overall, the sound is more balanced with a much tighter and well defined bass response and a more defined soundfield. I mark this down to the new Audyssey MultEQ XT32 that really does make a huge difference in compensating for room acoustics and helping to tune the subwoofer in a bit.Picture processing is superb as well. While I don't use it to process the PQ of my Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray player, I do use it to up-scale the signal from digital cable box/DVR from 1080i to 1080p and also apply some mild noise reduction, and my overly compressed cable has never looked better. There is a caveat, however. There seems to be an HDMI handshaking issue with the 818 and my Motorola digital cable box causing it to be forced down to 720p every time I start up. This means whenever I turn my cable on I have to manually dig down into the menu system and switch the output resolution back to 1080i.Now, the biggest disappointment is the networking features. I was really hoping to be able to use the 818 to stream all my ALAC and FLAC audio files from my networked hard drive and finally box up all of my CDs, regaining all that physical space (I have A LOT of CDs -- over 6,000). Alas, the Onkyo doesn't support gapless playback -- not via DLNA, not via your "home network" not even from a USB drive. WHAT?! Try listening to classical music, a concert disc, Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto, or Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Mood without gapless playback -- it's torture. Denon has already updated their AVRs to support gapless playback streaming, what's wrong with Onkyo? Even with the glaring issue of missing gapless playback aside, the Onkyo 818 had problems playing back streaming media, be it from my networked hard drive or via the internet (Pandora, etc.) -- and this was over a WIRED Ethernet connection, not wi-fi (more on that later). Streaming media playback had a lot of dropouts, and, while I could live with the occasional dropout from something like Pandora -- it is the Internet after all -- frequent drop outs playing music from my own hard drive over Ethernet is unacceptable. Getting back to wi-fi -- if you plan on using this over your network via wi-fi (with Onkyo's UWF-1 adapter or some other compatible adapter) don't. The Onkyo doesn't allow "home media" streaminng (read a networked hard drive/DLNA server) via wi-f. It also limits the sampling rate of streaming Dolby TrueHD lossless media over wi-fi to the unusual 68kHz.In the end, as an AVR, the TX-NR818 absolutely rocks with great sound and picture processing, all the traditional AVR features, but it falls down with one of the main draws of the latest crop of AVRs, and that's the networking. They need to update the firmware to fix these flaws fast.

3Not what I expected.
By Esther
I purchased the BOSE Lifestyle 48 Series in 2008 and the sound quality is not anything like I expected, even when watching moveis the base, trebble and total surruond quaility could be better. I tried ajusting the eiq but the system continued to show errors in the system, what I like most about the system is the remote control, it works from anywhere in the house. Again the sound could be much better considering the price and Name. My brother had a bose system in the late 80's early 90's and I remembered the sound quality it was awesome, that's why I choose the bose system. I believe they are making everything of cheaper quaility these days.

1VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE and VERY UNHAPPY CUSTOMER
By strdesign
I paid $3999 for this poorly designed system with no HDMI connection option. Now they are asking from me another $299 to just add HDMI. At this point I am very frustrated and do not recommend Bose to anyone. You can easily get a better system with only for $400-500 from Sony, Panasonic etc.. I feel like I got ripped off paying $3999 not having basic standard features.

5Absolutely love it!
By A. Heuer
I've had the Marantz 6007 for about a month and absolutely love it. From the superb, compact and light design to the simple set-up, to the clean, crisp GUI (Graphical User Interface aka the menus), to the clear, warm sound, the Marantz 6007 has exceeded my expectations. $1,200 is a lot to spend on a receiver, and there are great options at lesser price points that are worth looking into. But I've found everything I wanted (and more) in the Marantz 6007.The ease of set-up can't be overstated. Simply turn it on and it guides you through the connection of all your components and speakers. In all it took less than half an hour. This is my first "networked" receiver, and I never knew what I was missing. Along with the ability to update firmware (there have already been two since I purchased the unit), you get connectivity to Internet Radio, Pandora and Spotify among others (Spotify was a hugh selling point for me). Hopefully we'll get Netflilx and MLB.tv in the future...The Apple App Store / Google Play remote app is a great bonus. I find myself using the app (on an iPhone) more often that I could have anticipated and haven't had any problems. The design and interface could be a little smoother, but you'll get used to it rather quickly. There's a handy info button to click on from the home screen that helps you understand all the options and how to customize the shortcuts. The app is especially nice for controlling volume from throughout the home and switching to networked apps. I most often use it to switch between Spotify playlists. Doing so with the unit's remote is a little cumbersome, especially when doing searches, as you're stuck with an old fashioned alphabet grid and you must select one character at a time. Whereas on the app, you have use of your phone's keyboard. Of course, the receiver also has Apple AirPlay, so you can stream music from your phone or iTunes library on your computer. It all works like a charm. The unit does not have Wi-Fi, so you'll need to connect it to an ethernet cable to use AirPlay, networked options and the remote app (which itself still requires Wi-Fi to work, which I find strange, but I'm sure there's a technical explanation I'm not aware of!). My modem is on another floor, so I used a Netgear 85Mbps Powerline Network Adapter Kit - XETB1001. If you follow the instrustions for setting up the adapter (e.g., you can't plug them into a power strip), you'll have no problems. I've never once lost connectivity with my Marantz 6007.The sound on the Marantz is clean and warm. In fact, I almost find it a little too warm for the style of music I listen to (thrash and heavy metal). I prefer a little more punch. But the unit really shines on other styles of music and movies. I've been incredibly impressed with the sound on albums by the likes of Adele and Mumford & Sons. I'm also not using a subwoofer, so that may have something to do with the lack of punch on heavier music. And of course, there's numerous options to adjust the sound. I strongly suggest carefully reading through the Audyssey section (page 113) of the manual. The Audyssey setup, by the way, worked flawlessly. The measurments were accurate and the sound levels were considerably better balanced than on previous receivers I've used it on.This is most noticible during TV programs. The Dynamic Volume for the most part solves the problem of sound variations between quiet and loud passages, without neutering or compressing the sound quality too much. And again, you can adjust the level of compression. With a baby on the way, the quality of this feature will be great for low-volume listening! All in all, I enthusiastically rate the Marantz 6007 five stars. It's easy to use (dare I say it's idiot proof?!), but be sure to read through the manual (available on disc or download from the Marantz website as a PDF document) to best understand all the tweaks and options. It looks beautiful physically and has a great GUI. The AirPlay and networked options are incredibly convenient. As I sit upstairs writing this review, I'm using my iPhone to listen to various tracks via Spotify. It produces great sound, especially if you are used to lower priced receivers. And it's even somewhat future proof, with 3D and 4K playback ability and more HDMI inputs than you can shake a fist at. Highly recommended if you love music and movies and want to enjoy them at their fullest in your home.

5High End Sound Reasonable Price
By CardinalC
I have never owned a Marantz before. I have this running in my home theater and the sound is superb. I turn the volume almost all the way up and there is no distortion. Set up is a breeze and the remote app is perfect. I connected this to another amp to power speakers throughout my basement and the zoning capabilities makes this simple to do. I also have it connected to the internet for music streaming. I cannot be happier with the product and there are features I haven't used yet. A RF remote would be nice, but I bought a universal RF remote for $80 that runs it an 9 other components fine.

1Poor Quality / Lackluster technical support
By K. Bard
I had purchased an sr6006 unit a few months ago when the geek boys would not fix a simple problem in my Onkyo - and just gave me my money back. I know the 6006 is last years model but I think the quality and tech support issue crosses all models. The guys at the Magnolia room convinced me that the quality of the Marantz was stellar.Well I did not look at some of the reviews... and mine aligns with those that have had a bad experience. When I first connected my receiver it worked great. There were not as many surround sound options as with my former Onkyo receiver, and I noticed that the power did not have near the punch that the Onkyo did when I had the same decibel set on volume.About a month into the use... the thing lost video when I was watching a program... I had to perform a reset on the receiver to get the video back... OK not to bad - but then it started to get chronic / happening ever few days then becoming almost daily.I called the tech support - he immediately started blaming my television firmware.... to humor him I did the firmware upgrade / of course this did not help. I had also started losing connection to the internet (ok they did have an issue with Pandora for a while until a Marantz firmware correction came out) but I was having a problem with internet radio too.... again tech support started blaming my internet router... (oh no it could not be the nic or other card in the receiver)... ugh.I finally took the system to a local highly regarded shop... they kept it 3 weeks and could not duplicate the problem..OK I got it home set it back up and it worked again for about a month. This time it started locking up along with the audio and video going out... again chronic. I found the easiest way to recover was to unplug the unit and plug it back in... at least then I am only down for a couple minutes.Well I called the tech support again... this time I was assertive and told them they should be able to at least replace a common board or 2 that would be causing these issues... well says the support guy - the shops have that option to do that as they desire. So I took it over to the shop again, told them this and they asked me who I spoke to at Marantz that told me that.... saying that is not really true... I will see what happens and update. As it is, there was another Onkyo on sale, and I purchased another Onkyo and am pretty pleased - I am wary of problems reported on the Onkyo units too... my other one was an 807 and it had a very simple problem the geek guys did not want to order a part and replace... I wish I had that back, I could have fixed the thing myself... ugh boo to the geek guys
