5A trick to get working, weak documentation.. but once working - wow.
By James R. Bresee
I bought this for my son.We were both skeptical when we started trying to get it to work. It was a trick to get set up, but once working, it's been amazing.I never expected a Sony speaker to sound good, but this thing fills a room very nicely.Sony doesn't point out that they have both Android and iPad / iPhone applications available for this speaker that really make it shine. My son now reads on his kindle fire, and controls his play lists that are up on his PC under windows media center. He can sync output to both the Sony speaker and the Xbox 360 TV speakers using the sony app on his kindle. It's a really sweet whole house A/V setup that Sony has created. Now they just need to document how all the pieces fit together, and they will have a killer solution!

5AirPlay works fantastic after update
By DeathraceKing
I normally don't write reviews but I wanted to pass this on. Most of the consumer reviews on here that say it works horribly with AirPlay were written before the most recent firmware update (I believe released in 3/2012) that fixed the issues. I set mine up with a MacBook Pro and I use AirPort routers. After connecting I initiated the firmware update and it works flawlessly with AirPlay from my Mac, iPhone and iPad.

4It works fairly well as an Airplay device.
By rockthebeef
I purchased this wireless speaker to use as an Airplay device around my home. Setup was quite easy using Bonjour in the Safari Browser. It basically works like any other Airplay device. The one issue is that if I stream audio directly from an iPhone or iPad, the sound will drop out from time to time (within seconds or minutes). I don't know if this is a Sony or Apple issue. But If I stream directly from our home server (iMac with external drives) from iTunes or using the Remote App from an iPhone or iPad, it appears that dropouts do not happen. This doesn't really bother me at the moment because the content on my server contains all the same stuff that would be on my phone or tablet anyway. But I hope the issue can be resolved with either a Sony or Apple firmware update someday. As far as audio quality is concerned, it sounds as I expected. It gets pretty loud and sounds clear. It's not going to impress audiophiles too much, but the days of high quality sound are nearing extinction with all these convenient unobtrusive speaker docks, satellite systems, etc. that people tend to use in lieu of a real hifi these days. The bass is adequate and can get quite powerful if you corner load the device. I have not run any test tones (yet) to see how low this thing actually can play. The specs say 60Hz is the lower limit, but they do not say whether that +/-3dB or what. Overall it is excellent for casual listening or a party environment. It should be great to take out in the yard or garage as well.
