4Great sound and consistent performance
By Carter
Please also see my review for the Sony EZWT100 S-AIR Signal Transmitter. This was very easy to set up with my Sony Sony STR-DN1000 7.1-Channel Audio Video Receiver (which is an excellent unit by the way). Once the EZWT100 transmitter (purchased separately) was inserted into the receiver, I paired it easily with this WAHT-SA20 wireless amp for my rear speakers by entering the S-Air menu that became available in my A/V receiver's menu list and following the instructions to "pair" the devices. I was up and running with full 5.1 surround sound in about 15 minutes. I could buy a second WAHT-SA20 wireless amp to get full 7.1 surround, but 5.1 is more than enough at the minute. The only problems I have had have been occasional dropouts for a second or two. I believe this is related to the fact that, in my apartment building, there are over a dozen reasonably strong signals competing on the 2.4GHz RF band (which this also transmits on). You can download free apps online on your computer such as inSSIDer which shows you how many people nearby are clogging up the band and which part of the 2.4GHz spectrum they are using). It is probably worth changing the pairing settings if you are having trouble to get the best connection. There are three to choose from in the S-Air menu: A, B and C, representing the three non-overlapping 2.4GHz channels, 1, 6 and 11. If you have Wi-Fi at home on 2.4GHz, I would set the wireless router to the channel at one end of the spectrum and the S-Air unit to the channel at the other end (e.g. S-Air set to A, wireless router set to channel 11) to minimize interference.Overall, I'm very pleased not to have to deal with wires to the back of the room and the sound quality is indistinguishable from wired speakers. My biggest gripe is that the speaker connection bindings on the back of the WAHT-SA20 for the rear speakers are Sony specific. Happily, Sony includes two speaker wires which are about 12 feet long with the appropriate connector on one end to plug into the back of the unit. Unfortunately, these wires aren't particularly high quality. It would be much better if there were two regular binding posts (or at the very leat, spring loaded clips) so you could use your own better quality speaker wire.Aside: Note that my A/V receiver suddenly just refused to pair with my WAHT-SA20 wireless speaker unit, despite working for the first day or two. I removed the EZWT100 transmitter from the receiver, reinserted it, turned off my wireless router, changed the pairing channel etc. etc. Unplugging the A/V receiver for a few minutes from the wall and then plugging it back in was all it took. No problems at all since. Works like a charm!

5Sony WAHT-SA20 "There are no Strings on Me"
By XRX 150 Team Member
I have a Sony HT SS370 Home theater system, and I wanted to have my rear speakers operate without wires running over the floor. I stopped by the Sony Style store and purchased the EZW-T100 transmitter. Unfortunately, Sony decided to wait 3 months before putting the matching WAHT-SA20 on the market in the United States. Once it was available, I snapped it up. The installation and setup were very easy. There are three frequencies that the WAHT-SA20 and the EZW-T100 operate on. Once the correct frequency was selected, the system synced and worked perfectly. It is fantastic to watch and listen to a HD BlueRay DVD with 5.1 Surround Sound.

3It works, but may be too quiet
By CircuitsMan
I've not listened to too many home theater systems mso I don't know if this is normal or not, but the rear speakers seem to be a little quiet. I've only done the auto-calibration with my sony receiver, so I probably can increase their volume somehow. Other than that, it does work. There are a few comments I would mention that may help others. Even though the WAHT-SA20 will make your rear speakers "wireless", there are still wires going from the WAHT-SA20 to the rear speakers. I knew this beforehand, and it's just how all wireless home theater systems work. Also, make sure to get the EZW-T100 which is sold seperately. I also knew this beforehand, but according to other reviews a lot of people seem to miss this as well. One thing that was a PITA for me to figure out was that in oder to auto-calibrate the wireless rear speakers, the WAHT-SA20 had to be paired with the A/V receiver. The users manuals make it seem like pairing is optional but it's not.
