4Extremely good all-in-one system!
By TLF
I purchased this system due to the simplicity of the one-box solution, blu-ray player, amplifiers, FM tuner all in a very well made, stylish box. I had previously looked at a few systems from Bose, and while the Bose does seem to trump the Harman BDS unit with regard to the remote control, the BDS unit walks away with the sound quality and a bit more flexibility.I am not here to bash the Bose at all, but the main reason I liked the BDS is that it has the power and flexibility to utilize other speakers if one wanted versus using the anemic cube speakers and not so great "subwoofer" if you can call it that. Using what was supplied with the receiver, the included satellites and subwoofer, the setup was easy and sounded very good. The EZ setup microphone did a reasonably good job getting levels right from the start, I only had to pad down the sub a small amount, but that was about it. If one is careful about speaker placement and not try to use the system in too large of a room, you will be rewarded with very good sound for an all-inclusive system in a box. From video quality to sound quality, I am very impressed with this unit. Even music sounds very good with this system utilizing the disc drive or even the included FM tuner. I also setup my AppleTV to stream its contents to the BDS as well, all with very good results picture and sound-quality wise. Well done Harman!Sure, one can probably get the same or a little better quality of sound and more gizmos for similar money, but that isn't the intended audience for this unit overall. If you are a person that requires a good sounding package, with modest inputs and controls in a one-box package, I can say that I heartily recommend this system. Those with limited room in a rack or cupboard would find this an easy system to stow away, yet still have great sound and video to boot. This unit is too good looking to hide away though! Also, as a side item, I was curious as to how this system would work utilizing other brands of speakers in place of the more modest satellites and sub that comes in the box. I installed a pair of Martin Logan Motion 10's, a ML C center and FX surrounds and a pair of REL T-3 subs, and to say this brought everything up a big notch in regard to sonic quality. All of the above speakers were purchased on sale or close out, so a very competitive overall system price when compared to the Bose or other systems in a box, yet this system really delivered in a big way, yet still with a fairly small footprint. If and when Harman ever plans to sell the BDS receiver without included speakers, this might even be a better and more cost effective approach to go, I would have gone this route had it been available to me at the time. Either way, the Harman BDS 570/770 is an extremely nice setup. If you are in the market for a simple system with great sound and video quality, give it a try, I am glad I did. Well recommended!

3Great system, but...
By Jolsson
It is a great system! Easy to install and set up, good sound for the money, compact and cool looking. But what is really annoying is how slow the receiver is when starting up or when changing from one input to another. For example to change from HDMI 1 input to radio can take 4-5 seconds. The start up can take up to 10 seconds.

5Awesome

This sound system is worth every dollar. If you are thinking of buying a Yamaha or Bose you should reconsider. Harman Kardon is the best quality.
