4great value for home theater
By Eric
I purchased the soundcaster with some reservations but was pleasantly surprised after I hooked it up. The soundcaster will allow you to have wireless speakers to a point. You get a wireless connection between the included transmitter and receiver/50 watt amp. The speakers are then hooked to the soundcaster receiver with wire which can be another issue for your rear surround speakers especially if you want to wall mount them. The other concern is possible wifi interference on your home network. The claim by the manufacturer is that the soundcaster scans for an unused 2.4 Ghz channel automatically. While this may be the case, I did have have to spend quite a bit of time positioning the soundcaster transmitter and my network bridge to attain optimal network connectivity.Overall, I am pleased with this product because it does work as advertised and it is about 1/4 the cost of the KEF system which has 2 receiver/amps. You have to make the decision if you want to hide speaker wire or power cords.

5No more wires all around the room
By Ajay Goyal
This is a great wireless transmitter if you do not want to run wires across the room, for whatever reasons.Pros:1. Very simple to setup. It comes with two wires for left and right connections from HT Receiver to the Soundcast transmitter. Just hook up the wires and power, and you're good to go.2. The transmitter uses negligible power. The receiver uses more, as it has to output to speakers, but it goes on standby on inactivity. So that saves power.3. Volume level is pre-set and works perfectly out-of-box. It has volume adjustments that it remembers, so if you do need to tweak volume levels, it should be one time thing.Cons:NoneIt's definitely better than performing in-wall wiring or running the wires across the room.

4Excellent solution if you don't use Audyssey
By reintgenrc
I was a little skeptical given the unknown branding of this product. Here's my setup: Onkyo TX-NR708 receiver w/ Polk Audio Blackstone TL3's speakers. The wireless surround setup is fairly easy. It took me a while to get the sound level on the unit to my liking, but afterwards I was more than satisfied with the end result. This unit has produced reliable and convincing "wired" surround in a wireless application. WARNING: if you rely on your receiver's Audyssey function for sound callibration, this wireless function with NOT be compatible with Audyssey. In a nutshell, Audyssey is unable to judge the distance on a wireless speaker and thus your receiver via Audyssey cannot automatically adjust sound levels on wireless speakers. If don't rely on Audyssey and can live with this pitfall, then I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a quick wireless speaker solution.

5So far So good.
By JC
I have had this about a day and I will edit this after it's first road trip next week. I wanted to address some of the issues I have seen in various forums about it and my experience.Poor WiFi. This came with the latest driver installed and attached to my Netgear 3700 at 5gHz no problems. I am in the other room with good connection and speed. I have watched some of my Amazon movies and they streamed fines.Ugly brown case. It's gone and the unit comes with a silver case/keyboard. I have never liked tablet cases with the keyboard as part of them. For work and travel I think it's good as I don't have to carry the docking station and other stuff associated with it. The keyboard is ok. Not bad but not great but then for my style of typing, military hunt and peck, it's fine.Bloatware. Gone. A few Acer apps for updating drivers and such. NO MCAFFEE! Yea. Windows defender is in and configured. Also something called Evernote. Haven't tried it yet so I don't know if it will meet a need. Other than that, straight Windows 8.Speed Performance etc. It's perky and fast. The touchscreen is very reactive and looks good. Turn off the auto brightness. Makes it flicker. Swipe the right side of the screen and you get to the manual brightness control fast. Adjust it to situational needs that way. You have to get a mouse. Touchscreen with Win8 and just browsing and fooling around is fine. If you want to do anything serious, got to have a mouse. I am also going to pick up a mini USB hub so I can do more that one USB thing at a time with it. Again to avoid traveling with the dock. All in all, I am very pleased. I was going to pick up a Sony Ultrabook but as I fly so much I really wanted something smaller and this is it.I will add more to this review after I give it the road test next week.

5Great (comparative) Value and Thoughtful Packaging
By tdk
Was pleasantly surprised to have received the latest iteration of this model that included a new case/keyboard combo. I had back ordered the previous model (and it thankfully got cancelled) which had been bundled with (an apparently unsightly brown) separate case and keyboard. This model's (W700P) case/keyboard along with the dock, hdmi to vga cable (wish it had been DVI), mini-usb cable and stylus all make this a great bundle for a price that is lower than competing products without such accessories (Surface Pro, ATIV Pro).Boons:+ Value as stated above. And I believe I should insert my opinion on the included dock. I've read some rather unfairly harsh reviews about it and yes, from a design standpoint, it certainly wouldn't be mistaken as having come from the desk of Jony Ive. However, I believe the dock to be a great inclusion (I don't think any of the competitors even have something similar to purchase separately, let alone as a bundle with the tablet). The dock allows portrait or landscape orientation and a couple different viewing angles from landscape, but the most useful aspect is (3) additional USB 3 ports. Plug in a standalone keyboard, mouse, touchpad, flash drive, etc.+ Win8 Pro and SSD: First time I'm using Win8 and I'm pleased so far with the experience. It's definitely optimized for a touch screen and I believe the tablet form is ideal. Still picking up tips and tricks but the desktop mode (a la Win7) is one click/touch away when real work is required. And of course, lightning-quick boot up from a cold start with the SSD.+ Battery life: as advertised - usually runs about 8 hours on a full charge with moderate use of processor-/graphics-intensive apps and/or with screen brightness turned up.+ No bloatware: another pleasant surprise with this iteration was the absence of any 3rd party clutter aside from a couple of small Acer apps. Apparently, the previous model had MacAfee and possibly other mostly unnecessary software.Banes:- No SD card slot and no digitizer/pressure-sensitive stylus. The lack of these two features really had me considering the Surface Pro. The price point advantage of this Iconia W700P ultimately won me over though as I also rationalized that I could always use a USB flash drive for additional storage and although the included stylus is comparatively klunky, it is useful at times.- Keyboard: still getting accustomed to it and I understand the size/space constraints but I believe there is room for improvement. Some combination of the ergonomics and key response does not allow extended typing (at least, not comfortably).- Cameras: definitely room for improvement. Both front and rear cameras are terrible for resolution and low-light conditions. I don't envision using the back camera very often but a quality front-facing cam is a must for decent Skyping/video chats.- 11.6" screen: not exactly a negative yet as it may just be a matter of time/adjustment but I find the length unwieldy in portrait mode. Perhaps they were trying to preserve a pre-determined aspect ratio but even in landscape orientation, I sometimes wish it were a tad wider and shorter (from the perspective of portrait).Overall, very happy and I only expect my appreciation to grow as I go through the adjustment period of getting past the above relatively minor gripes. As a final (and not terribly important) note, the packaging of this product was rather impressive. Very neatly and compactly arranged. Easy to tell that some (good) planning and consideration went into the preparation.

5Best Tablet on the Market!
By Floyd McButterspoon
I can't say enough good things about this tablet. It is very fast. The only possible negative - the WiFi issue, is easily corrected by the ACER driver update. Plus, I love Windows 8, since it feels like two OS's for the price of one. Will not be long before the Win 8 marketplace is up to snuff - maybe a little light right now. Even the stand, which I had read some bad reviews, is very useful and is at the perfect viewing angle, so not being adjustable is not an issue. It also has a killer real 7 hour or so battery life, which for a full pc tablet is pretty insane. I previously sold my IPad 3 and I do not miss it.

5Great product, definitely reccomended!
By SparXXXie
I got this system in March after pre-ordering it. I have had previous good luck with Panasonic home theater systems so I waited buying an upgrade until this was released this year. And I'm glad I did. What a great product. I've had it for 2 weeks now and I'm really impressed with this system. I don't have a 3D television, I only use this system for Bluray discs. You do not have to own a 3D television to use this as a bluray system.I've shopped around for other home theater systems for a long time. I've gone to many electronics stores, Fry's, Best Buy, Target, but I was not impressed with any of the other brands out there. Sony, Samsung, LG, I truly believe this Panasonic system beats them all in terms of quality, sound, picture, and features.Likes:Viera Cast: Built-in ready to go WiFi for streaming netflix, vudu, and many other services. This thing will also do Skype!Down-firing subwoofer: Panasonic changed the subwoofer so it fires the bass into your floor, creating a theater-like boom and experience. And let me tell you, this subwoofer really rumbles my condo. The bass is deep, no distortion whatsoever even when I've cranked this system really loud. I'm really impressed with the design of the subwoofer. Whether you want to watch movies quietly or crank it up during an action-packed movie, the bass produced by this system is totally jaw-dropping.Cinema Surround Sound - The cinema surround sound feature you can turn on really increases the surround effect of movies, making this 5.1 system sound like a 7.1 system. I recommend turning the rear surround speakers up, you can customize every speaker and how loud you want them to be. You can even increase the bass output. The surround sound produced is clear, crisp, sounds excellent, and during actions scenes you don't even realize that it's the superb surround experience making your heart pound, not the movie.2 HDMI Inputs & Optical In: The SC-BTT370 allows you to connect your xbox or ps3 or whatever has an HDMI source directly to the unit, so you don't have a ton of fussing and forgetting which system is hooked directly to your TV and what setting you are supposed to be on. I have my xbox directly connected to the surround sound system and it works flawlessly.Picture: The deep color and full 1080p picture renders beautifully. I am breathless when watching bluray movies on this system. The Netflix and VUDU streaming services are integrated nicely, and look stunning as well. I watched U-571 and Blawhawk Down last night, and I still couldn't believe how clear and beautiful the picture was.3D Discs: I do not have a 3D television, and you do not need a 3D television to use this player. I have talked to many people who have bought this system, and they rave about the 3D capabilities and I believe it. They told me this play blows the PS3 out of the water in terms of 3D rendering and detail.Dislikes: None

3Great sound, but annoying software limitations
By Los Angeles 1
First the positive:The sound that comes out of this little unit is amazing. The small size is just incredible, and the unit never gets hot. I was worried because this unit does not have a powered subwoofer, but the bass is very loud and leaves me very impressed and not wanting more. Also, the speaker grills are metal and durable (not cloth covers, like on previous models). I love the Vieracast internet accessible content. With my fast internet connection, the movies from Vudu load instantly and look almost better than my live FIOS HD picture. I also love the German news Vieracast app, I just wish they had more apps on the unit. Even the FM radio is better than expected. But there are some pretty annoying negatives:The problem with this unit is the software. Although the GUI looks very pretty, it has some severe limitations. Previous Panasonic units would remember what input you were last using when you turned them off, and the next time you turned them on would already be switched to that input. On this unit, however, that does NOT happen. I only use this unit to watch my cable's STB which is plugged into the unit's HDMI-1 input. But, EVERY TIME I turn the unit on, it goes back to the default HOME screen (where you must graphically choose what you would input you would like to use) rather than going straight to the HDMI-1 input. This extra and very unnecessary step stops me from just using my one cable tv remote to turn on my TV, my STB, and this unit. I can use that other remote to turn this unit on, but I STILL have to use the remote that came with this unit to navigate away from the HOME screen and tell it to switch to HDMI-1. This is incredibly annoying and it really does not make sense why Panasonic made this change from last year's model.Another annoying software problem is that it takes FOREVER to switch to the HDMI inputs. I don't know what the unit is doing while it it switching to the HDMI input (analyzing, thinking, whatever), but it takes about 5-7 seconds before my STB's image appears on the connected TV. This is in direct contrast to switching inputs on my Panasonic TV, where switching HDMI inputs is almost instantaneous. So, the major negative is that it takes about 20 seconds to turn on the unit, grab the remote, navigate away from the HOME screen to the HDMI input, and then wait, wait, wait, until it activates the input and actually puts an image out on the connected TV. For me, this is way too long, especially if I just want to fire the unit up real quick to watch some quick news during lunch.I am considering returning this unit for this reason, even though the excellent price and the excellent sound it puts out makes my decision hard.If you're not a time-conscious person, maybe the unit's slooooow input switching will not bother you. Or the fact that you need to go through the HOME menu EVERY time you turn the unit on. In that case, this will be a great unit for you. You'll love the sound you'll get out if it!

3Good sound for entry HTiB, lacking extras
By David J. Zemens
We just bought this as our first home theater system and so far the sound quality has been excellent. We also enjoy the apps included (mainly the Pandora app) to listen to music.Set-up was fairly simple, although the basic instructions do not include instructions for connecting a DVR/set-top cable box/etc. and that requires some additional steps and another HDMi or optical cable to make all the connections. But there are several things that are really disappointing to me. Although there is a USB port, it does not appear to recognize any USB devices I have attached (two WD external hard drives and a Philips MP3 player).According to their online tech support the USB port "is only for a wireless LAN adaptor. It is not for connecting anything else." This is strange, because this system is already wireless. This system does does have an SD card slot, but the tech support indicates that it only supports four file types: MPEG2, AVCHD, JPEG and MPO. This means that the SD card reader will not play MOV, MP4, MP3, AVI, RM or any of the other very common multimedia file types. So far, this system has been unable to recognize any of the three SD cards I have tried to use. I think they need to be "formatted" first. So much for plug-and-play; you will not be able to take the SD card from your camcorder and plug it in to watch your movies.

3Please read this if SOUND is your primary concern...
By ReviewerDave
Review:Having ordered (here on Amazon) this system based on the high ratings and reviews, I felt compelled to write a review to those contemplating this system.Visually: Like most others have stated, it is a nice looking system. Shiny plastics all around. Very nice bright display. An uncluttered unit with touch sensitive 'buttons'.Build quality: Again like most others have stated, it has a nice solid build. The speaker stands (bottoms) are heavy enough to anchor the top portion of the speakers. The main unit doesn't feel cheap and looks to be well made, crafted, and constructed.Options: It has 2 HDMI in connections and 1 HDMI out connection. An optical-in connection, as well as an AUX-in connection. Speaker connections are color coded as well as connection specific according to the speaker that will be connected. There are plenty of options for the user once the unit is turned on from the Samsung Smart Hub, to the various preset sound settings. Video streaming from Netflix and Hulu were excellent and convenient through the Samsung Smart Hub. The rear wireless setup makes this an ideal system for those that can't or don't want to run wires to the rear of their room. Surround sound from the wireless setup is excellent. The sound of the surrounds are just as good as a wired setup. It has a wired microphone to assist with an automated calibration of the system according to how the user has it placed in their room, or you can manually set the speaker system sound. The options list goes on and on...Sound: Here's where things change. If sound is your PRIMARY reason for buying this unit, I can't recommend it. Don't get me wrong, the system does sound good, but it doesn't suck the audience in when you are watching a movie or gaming. If you are the type that likes to get immersed into gaming or their movies, this system is lacking. First off, the subwoofer is a passive subwoofer, meaning not powered/amplified. Second, the wires that feed the sub are like 22 gauge, much too small to carry the low end frequencies to the sub. Third, the sub unit is deceiving. What looks to be an 8" woofer in the enclosure is really just a passive radiator for the 6.5" speaker on the opposite side that is hidden by a thin fabric to conceal it. If you're thinking, "Well I'll just replace the sub with a 3rd party powered unit" (as I and another reviewer did), it still will not impress. Here's why. The signal coming from the main unit that's feeding the sub does not pass the lower frequencies that is needed to get all the sound from the lower frequency spectrum. If you connect a powerful powered sub to this unit and barely turn it on, then play a game or movie that demands lower frequencies, you will hear them in a distorted, flat, drowned out sound. It will not be deep and vibrant. Another reviewer wrote that it was like the sound of a boombox. I believe his primary concern for buying this unit was sound, just like me. Epic fight scenes, explosions, crashes, bullets wizzing by, etc., will just sound empty. The sound from the rest of the system is pretty good (definitely not AWESOME) and convincing. But for the unit to provide as a bluray player, an internet hub device, and an amplifier to the speaker system, it simply can't pack all of that into this small unit and be expected to blow the user away with incredible sound. I was easily able to turn this to full volume (max is 50) without me thinking that it was "too loud" for normal everyday gaming, movies, or music.I felt I had to write this review because most reviews state that this system sounds AWESOME. Some reviewers compare it to their much more expensive component systems. Component systems have always been my standard setup. I gave this HTIB system a chance to see if it could win me over with a slim package and trimmed down design. It didn't. I packaged it back up (a pain in the ***), and it's getting picked up today (Feb 10, 2012). I am replacing it with a 5.1 component system instead.I hope this review helps and it saves someone the trouble of going through the hassle of finding that all-in-one home theater unit that suits their wants/needs. It's a nice system, it's just not the system that fills my wants/needs.

5Very good for the price
By John Buchanan
First, Amazon is one of the best out there for price, selection and shipping! The HT-D6730w is very good for the price and seems to have corrected the problems that you may have read about by the end users of the HT-C6930W.The sound is as good as my 8 year old Onkyo system which cost $1500. Although my Onkyo is better built with polished aluminum speakers/AV and a AC power sub (the Samsung is high gloss piano finished plastic) the processing for surround seems to work better with this Samsung system. (Modern technology) at it best ;-)The system is very well packed in its box and took me as much time to unpack it as it did to set up, about an hour from start to finish and looks/sounds great with my 65 DLP TV.I was a little confused looking at the picture and only counting 5 speakers plus sub; how could it be 7.1 The two front tower speakers is 2 separate speakers in 1. Therefore by counting them twice you come up with 7 plus the sub. The 2 rear wireless speakers have wires that go to the wireless AC power module and then it communicates with the AV receiver wireless across the room. The sub does not require a separate AC plug-in, which was surprising to me, however works very well. The blue-ray player does not have a pop out tray, but direct feed like a CD player in a car. The up scaling works great and standard DVD's looks as good as HD. The 2D to 3D is not bad either. I put in Polar Express (standard DVD) movie and clicked on 2D to 3D along with the 3D sounds and my kids just loved it ;-). One button push on the remote to get to Netflix is another plus.Again, for the price this is a very good system!

4Convenient, good bang for the buck
By JP
Bought this mostly for three reasons:1. So I wouldn't have any compatibility problems with my Samsung TV2. Rear wireless speakers (although not true wireless, sure beats having wires or having to running wires across the living room)3. Tallboy front speakers. (I have my TV mounted on the wall, so having these tall speakers helps the room look proportional. And I don't have to buy speaker stands for them)Obviously if you are looking for a system with the best sound quality there are better products out there in this price range, but I was looking for a specific set of features.During my research to find a stereo system that had the perfect blend of qualities, features, and price I came to the conclusion that this was the perfect one for what I was looking for.I've had this product now for about a month, and have no complaints. The 3D blu-ray works well with my TV, I like the Ipod/Iphone cradle that it comes with to play my tunes, the sounds are rich and full, and am impressed with all the little online features the system offers. The only thing I didn't like about this was the depth of the blu-ray player/receiver. I had to cut out the back of my display case/shelf, that I use to place all my electronics on, more than usual for this device. I thought drilling a hold in the back for all the wires would suffice, but had to cut a lot more to provide enough space for the device. All in all, I would recommend this product for those looking for the above features.

5Fantastic device, but 1st-production articles may prove frustrating to some...
By Cary L. Brown
I received my player a short time ago, and so far I'm very pleased with the device. Setup wasn't totally painless, however.I currently own four optical-disk-playing devices (not counting computer drives). I have a five-disk Sony DVD carousel, a Samsung BD player(with wireless but with minimal features, mainly Pandora, Netflix, Blockbuster, and some news headlines), a slightly older Sony BD player(BDP-570) which has, up until now, been the main unit in my entertainment center, and now this.I'm reasonably pleased that the user interface is essentially unaltered from my earlier Sony BD device. The interface is still very easy to use, and very intuitive. It DOES, however, have the annoyance of lacking some configurability (I'd sure like to be able to remove the "Michael Jackson channel" from my list of video channels, for example, as I'll never... EVER... watch that.)It does have a few new features accessed from that media-resources screen... the Opera web browser, a pretty decent Skype client, and a few other items. But if you've owned a Sony BD device before, the UI will be totally familiar to you, as will most of the main configuration options. The remote control is also very similar to the older Sony remote, except that some of the special functions are now in a secondary, concentric ring around the nav-select pad... which is actually a BAD thing as far as I'm concerned, as I have found myself frequently accidentally hitting the outside ring when I'm trying to hit the inside ring, or vice-versa. Fortunately for me, I seldom use the provided remote, instead using my Logitech Harmony programmable remote... so this is not really an issue. But if you plan to use this remote as your primary control, I suspect you'll experience the same thing from time to time. Sony could have done better in this regard.Picture quality is gorgeous, of course, as played on my 240hz Samsung 3D LEDTV. I wasn't sure that there would be any visible difference, but the image quality is notable improved, especially on upscaled DVD images. It seems that the two fast processor cores in the machine are getting a pretty robust workout... they're not being wasted! 3D is impressive, too... though I suspect this is more related to the TV than the player. (Samsung's 3D TVs are the best on the market IMHO, right now, though Sony's BD players are the best, I think!) That said, the machine never so much as "hesitates a frame" in even the most action-packed 3D scenes... which is something you'll occasionally note on lower-end 3D units, as the data streaming through them can briefly get backed up in fast, moving scenes, being rendered twice-over for each frame (once per eye, in other words).I do not have access to a 4K display, so I have no idea if that's good or not. I suspect that 4K will tax the resources of this machine... then again, so few people have 4K displays right now, it's not worth quibbling about.Now... if you buy one of the first units (ie, the current batch, I think!), you'll likely have a few issues when you first obtain it. The machine is designed to be network-connected, and wants to be connected. But, at least in my case, and in the case of many others, the network functionality seems somewhat hobbled under the "release firmware." You need to update the machine's firmware... after which, my machine has worked perfectly. But the device, by default, will try to "web update" itself anytime connected. Which means that you need to manually update the device, using either downloaded media (from the vendor's website), media obtained from the vendor (for a fee), or at the very least, a hard-wired network connection, in order to do your first update.Prior to the first update, I had significant difficulties maintaining a connection... which could lead to an improper update, and a "bricked" device. Lots of other folks had the same problem. Post-update, my device works perfectly. Also pre-update, I couldn't manually enter my wireless networking info (the UI was there, but it didn't allow me to finish my setup). Post-update, that's no longer an issue. The receiver in this device isn't tremendously powerful, and a better antenna/receiver set would be a major boon. It's basically on-par with devices built into laptops and so forth, and (post-update) works about the same as any of those. But it would be well-served by having some improved reception, since it's going to be tasked with streaming a lot of data. The reception is better than you'll get with a Roku or the like, but not as good as it ought to be for the price, and if you're not near your router, you may have some connectivity issues from time to time. It does seem to be on-par with my prior Sony device, or the built-in wireless in any of my TVs.That's about all I can say about it right now. It's a terrific device, plays back flawlessly for any media I have access to, and just generally is the best device of its type out there right now, as far as I'm concerned. Just be careful about updating the device when you first receive it. I recommend downloading the update files and installing them without the network at all (see Sony's support site). After doing this, my network has worked flawlessly so far, and the device is separated from my router by a floor and four walls, and about fifty feet... and we have power lines nearby.I'm very satisfied with the device so far. If that ever changes, I'll be sure to update this review, though.*************Edit: Well, I've had this for a while now and have fully put it through its paces. There's one thing I thought I ought to mention. This has the best DLNA interface I've yet to see on a consumer device. It's easy to use, functions well... but there's a problem. It only recognizes a tiny subset of my media, including very, very few of my video files... very few. And while it will recognize any MP3 file, most of my media is in WMA format, which the player won't recognize, either. So, the DLNA functionality is pretty hobbled, as far as I'm concerned. I'd love to hear the experiences of others in this regard. No support for windows media audio and video? No support for MKV containers? These are things that really should be present in ANY contemporary media-streaming solution. Hopefully Sony can implement something (it's not a hardware issue so it MUST be a legal-rights issue!) to manage file types better in the future.Right now, the only device I have which can make full use of my media server, with the exception of actual PCs, is my little Archos portable media player. I sure wish my Sony BD player had support for as many file times as my Archos does...*************Another edit:I've now had two more firmware updates since posting the above. And yesterday, I decided to play around with the network DLNA mode again. I don't know which firmware fixed this, but as of yesterday, I can now play WMA audio files with no problems.I still can't see any of my WMV, DIVX, MOV, or other video files. The only things I CAN see, really, are the transport stream files taken directly from DVD rips, and I only have a handful of those, created off of disks I own, so that I could put those files onto my portable player (Archos 5IT, 500GB).So... it does seem that Sony is "fixing" the DLNA issues, but a step at a time. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of my stuff... video files, etc... someday soon.

3Excellent Picture-Sound, but flakey firmware performance
By Scott Kessler
Ok. I rated this item 3 stars which is comprised of 5 stars for picture/audio performance (and other things, more in a bit) but 1 star for extremely flakey and down-right dangerous firmware (more on that in a bit). For for what gets 5 or 4-5 star ratings: The 'good'The image and picture quality of this Sony is the best to-date and rivals the best of blu-ray players at nearly any price. The available adjustments make for great enhancements and tweaks for any kind of display (plasma, lcd, led, projector (dlp or lcd or ...). The streaming options are fantastic with Amazon Video, Netflix, YouTube, and a host of other streaming services (including music/radio streaming services). The Sony Entertainment Network is also available and that adds a host of additional options for viewing/listening (however, I'm not a fan so I've not explored it too much). Netflix on this unit (at least after performing latest firmware upgrade ... more on that in the 'ugly' section of this review) give you truer HD performance with 1080p streaming and DD+ 5.1 surround capabilities. Watching Killer Elite on video was actually fantastic. For what gets a 1 or 2 star rating: The 'bad'I've updated to the latest firmware and when I put in a disc and then turn on my whole entertainment setup, the blu-ray players either turns off (which is ok) or worse freezes at the menu for some reason. When it appears to not freeze and simply hit play to start the blu-ray disc, the machine freezes and will not shut off and the soft-buttons keep flashing ... I have to unplug it to reset the unit. I may have a bad unit and I will probably replace it, but this should never happen. I've had so many dvd and blu-ray players and this is the worst behaving one I've ever had. I've had the unit less than 24 hours and had to unplug it 3 times .... ouch. As bad as this is, the worst is yet to come. The 'ugly'When attempting to setup the networking setting out of the box ... the unit would not connect when everthing else in my house was connecting fine. The wired connection would not work. So I tried wireless ... this is where the extreme ugly comes in to play. I used the automatic WPS networking setting where you go and push a button on your router and it auto-negotiates with the device and setup the blu-ray player's network settings. Well, instead of setting the player, the player when working with my router UNBELIEVABLY changed my routers SSID to gibberish and also change my passphrase to gibberish ... and then nothing in my house, including the Sony blu-ray player would connect to my home network ... UGGH.... so not being a techno-phobe noobie, I logged into my router withl admin rights and changed my SSID and settings back, but my router decided that I could not apparently just change it all back and all would be good ... Nooo ... I had to re-choose and rekey in the passphrase on every wireless device in our house .... which we have a ton, a few in nearly every room .... arghhh.... way to go Sony. Not only is this bad, it is ugly and down right dangerours ....Now I decided with such craziness going on that I had to update the firmware and perhaps that would take care of the wireless issue ... but because I could not get it to connect to my network nor trusted the darn thing to not screw up my network, I downloaded the firmware (396 or something...) and burned the files to CDR and then updated the players, which went ok. However, the player after ejecting the disc and my turning it back on, it strangely rebooted itself at least 20 times which made me think that I had a complete lemon on my hands. Eventually it stopped after about 15 minutes and now work fine except for the behavior in the 'bad' part of this review.I'd say to wait and see if Sony works out the firmware issues or quality issues or whatever the issue is with this player. I'm going to see about replacing the player as it is flakey. However, the audio/video and streaming options are outstanding.

5Firmware update fixed everything.
By W. ingle
I'm on my second one now. The first one arrived with the bd-rom drive broken. Before I discovered it, I worked on the wireless side of the player and successfully registered with Vudu, Hulu+, Amazon, Netflix. I sent the player back for exchange. The new one arrived and I must say, the picture quality playing blu ray discs is outstanding, better than my previous 2d player. However, I cannot register this machine with Netflix. The screen goes black and the machine locks up when I access Netflix. Called Netflix first: must be your player. Called Sony and was escalated to level 3 after numerous resettings and testings. Final result: your isp is too slow to access Netflix. This in spite of the fact that the previous 790 had no problems with Netflix. I am also streaming movies just fine on my laptop from Netflix. Today, my isp was running at 3mbps, so I tried again: locked up. No problems registering Vudu, Hulu+, Amazon. Another example of finger pointing. They make a fine art of blaming every piece of equipment you have except theirs. I'll keep the player, because it's otherwise ok, and I can stream Netflix on my laptop, but I'm not happy with Sony's tech support (and they are aware of it.)Update 3/1/13. I've had the player about 8 months now. Shortly after I wrote the above review, the player notified me of a firmware update, downloaded it and installed it. Everything has worked perfectly since then. The player is doing an outstanding job and I am completely happy with it. Therefore, I'm changing my rating to 5 stars.
