2Not nearly as good as systems based on Bose Jewel Cube speakers
By Peter Q. Venkman
Recently got a Bose Lifestyle 28 refurb unit, it was still pretty expensive. Quick thoughts:Setup: the build quality and cables are all top-notch. Everything has a plug and every single wire was easy to set up. The wires didn't hide too wel in the two sets of stands I bought from Bose. Using the adapti-q system to balance the speakers was the appeal of the system.Video: the new progressive scan features use a combo s-video and composite y-adapter to component to send a full progressive scan signal. I was skeptical at first, but was pretty pleased with the image quality and black levels put out by the unit on the LG 32LC2D HDTV. Not bad picture and it really did put out progressinve scan! The central unit still relies to heavily on legacy ports: composite everywhere, 2 s-video, 2 coaxial and only 1 optical input. If you have an Xbox 360 and a PS3 (or two) only one of them will work with optical on this system.Audio: there was no hiss or noise that I could hear when the system was on and no sound was playing, that's a plus. Video games through the optical sounded pretty good through the optical input, although separation was lost a little in the speakers. CD-based Music sounded pleasingly warm. Now the bad part: this speaker set produces pretty crummy sound for movies. Dialog sounded muffled and quiet, voices were causing the acoustimass module to kick in a little too much- resulting in deep tones associated with normal voices on the Hot Fuzz DVD, while voice work in Star Wars sounded like people were talking through a pillow! Large battle scenes lost their high-end sparkle- the clangs of swords, shattering of glass, or screeching of tires all were toned down and warmed by the over-powering tilt towards mid sounds in the acoustimass module.Bass response was powerful although undefined and needs tighter response. Staccato sounds become a constant tone.Giant battle scenes in Star Wars and LOTR became a mess in surround- nothing was distinct or separated. The opening Tripod sequence in War of the Worlds had heavy bass, powerful mids, and almost nothing else. The bursting of the pavement was ominously powerful, but the crumbling dirt, smashed cars, and zaps of energy beams were all muted and lost by the overzealous acoustimass module. Screams of the crowd became lost in the soundtrack of the movie! Brass and violas were more readily audible than the scream of a charcter on camera.I turned the treble compensation all the way up to little improvement, except it made "s" sounds in dialog sizzle too much, while keeping vowels in the deep mid-tone prison. Easing down bass compensation dropped the Low frequncy channel effects, but left dialog sounding way too bass heavy and overly warm in that same area of overcompensation. I ran the adapt-IQ system again and again, I moved furniture, and called customer service. These did not help and I became increasingly alarmed about spending $1850 on this system.Ultimately, I decided to return my $1850 Bose Lifestyle 28's and stick with my $150 Klipsch Pro Media 5.1. These speakers are not great, but at least I can hear what people are saying in films. There is better seperation in this setup than in Bose's direct/reflecting speakers. The Bose cost ten times as much, produced 10 times the room filling sound, but left nothing distict enough to hear in movies for an average OR discerning listener. If you have the money, try the Lifestyle 35's, as they produce a much brighter sound and still have enough mid and deep range to make movies pop.Avoid the Lifestyle 28's and get a Home theater in a box solution from one of the major retailers.A big, and expensive disappointment.Customer Service notes: I have to end this with the fact that despite my clear frustrations, I was treated with incredible courtesy and friendliness by everyone at Bose. I have not had a better experience so far with a customer service department.

5home theater taken to the next level, expensive, but you get what you paid for
By iboca
I spend at least 3 months doing some research on which home theater system was the best for me. well after trying some brands that, according to the whole internet, are quite superior to Bose, and some super cheap configurations that according to some reviewers (from other sites), where better than Bose, I ended up coming back to my choice number one from the very beginning....BOSE lifestyle systems...My friends have "yamaha", "sony", "klipch", and all the additions you can put on those HT's, but I was no satisfied. maybe it was their configuration, but the sound starts breaking after a couple of minutes after playing in higher volumes, DVD's whete OK in the sony, ang good in the yamaha, but blue ray disc soundtrack was horrible in both of them...tryed a magnolia 1000 dollars worth from BB, andit was good, but not what I was looking for.then decided to put some more money in my investment and ended up buying my Bose lifestyle system 28 series. I am totally satisfied. the Bass is not cheesy neither booming, is perfect. tremble was adjusted in a little lower setting, and the ADAPT IQ did the rest...since I have the bose VS-2, the DVD resolution is excellent, and sound is powerful, crisp, NORMAL (not timpanic membrane breakingly abnormal), CD playback is excellent. Playing games is a pleasure, with sorround sound, Dolby digital via optical cable...I also have a logitech squeezebox duet connected to it, and works astonishingly, with the coaxial cable connection...well I do not know if thiis HT system was made for me, but fullfils all my entretainment demands, in one single package, easy to install and configure, and no matter how you try to hide the it (for nobody to judge just by the brand), every guest I have had, have made comments about the sound (it doesn't matter what we are doing in front of the TV), somebody notices a difference for good.An advise is: NEVER READ REVIEWS from the interner about this brand, because the ones so called (I did not have enough money, so I decided to write a bad review instead), are WRONG. It is a grear HT and if you have the money available, get one of those, and you will forget about all those difficult to use configurations and systems that work partially.note:the good: great sound better that everithing else around, easy to use and set up, excellent support service, and does what it whas meant to do.the bad: pricey, bose shuld invent "WIRELESS SPEAKERS" (all 5 of them) because cables aren't easy to hide.all in all, bose is a matter of afordability, but if you can afford it, GET IT

3Behind the times, expensive and proprietary
By DC Machead
I purchased this item in 2007 when HDMI was relatively new. Setup was a breeze, the sound was great and it worked very well for 2 1/2 years at which point the CD/DVD player started having read errors. I called Bose and they said it would be $165 to repair it (with a new 1 year warranty) and to add HDMI I could buy a box to connect to the Lifestyle for $300.At that point, I decided I'd keep the speakers and buy a new receiver ($165 repair + $300 HDMI box = $465 = modern receiver with a bazillion connections). The receiver arrived and I discovered the Acoustimass speakers that come with the Lifestyle 28 have a proprietary connector that only works with Bose products, unlike the standalone Acoustimass speakers which can connect to everything. If I had it to do over again, I would not buy this product because of the proprietary connectors on the speakers. Most modern receivers have microphones that you can use to optimize the sound in your space--this was a big selling point for me when I bought the Bose. I'll give Bose points for repairing the product and issuing a new warranty on it long after the purchase.

5Great product
By Charles E. Kirk
I read the reviews before purchasing and most were positive but one was of concern because I use VLC to play many of my videos on ext hard discs and the reviewer said he could not get it to work with VLC media player. After connecting everything and making the recommended adjustments for windows 7 I proceeded to check out what would and would not work. The unit works great with VLC media player if you run it in mirror mode and tweak the video output of the player. I have discovered that Power Link DVD software works best for full screen playback of digital video media and has less problems with "fuzz" in the picture which happens with VLC.I have just started using the product and am sure with a little tweaking on my computer I will get even better results than now. I have to say I am seriously impressed with the overall function in mirror mode since I can use my bluetooth keyboard and mouse to do everything on my tv screen and leave my computer closed and out of the way.The only concern I have at the moment is the amount of heat produced by the unit with extended use. After about 2 hours the unit gets pretty warm but this is to be expected with the amount of processing involved for that length of time without a cooling method other than ambient air cooling.Overall if you're looking for a way to eliminate wires running all over the place and decent functionality between your laptop and HDMI TV this is a product worth purchasing. The benefits far outweigh the minor deficiencies.I would also recommend using Cyberlink PowerDVD 10 for viewing video as it will play DVD, Blueray, and digital media. All of this will work in miror mode, including Blue Ray playback which is listed as one item that the unit isn't compatible with. Since the blue ray plays through the software and the unit is mirroring the computer screen you get to watch it from your computer to the TV like a normal DVD.Also be prepared to do a little experimenting to get better results and don't rely on just plug and play. Plug and play works but for greater viewing quality some tweaking is necessary.

5Grandma's Helper
By Nonni
I have several Grandchildren who are constantly wanting to play on sites like Playhousedisney.com, PBSkids.org and Nickjr.com but they are always wanting to crowd around my laptop. This product is allowing me to put these sites on our TV in the family room and the kids love it! The noise in my house has dropped since getting it and I couldn't be happier. My husband set it up and just to make sure he had it right, he spoke to Warpia on the phone and they were very helpful.

5This is the HTPC you've been waiting for.
By R. Smith
I have tried other small form factor PCs for use with my home theater, and returned every one of them because they could not stream high quality video at 1080p. This one can, and does it like a champ. The unit comes with a bluetooth keyboard, a bluetooth mouse, and an infrared remote control. The documentation is poor (still have no idea what 2 of the buttons on the remote do,) but the product is superb. Note that the optical drive is DVD, not Bluray, so if you need the latter this is not the gadget for you. This Revo comes with Windows 8, which I have found to be mildly annoying because of the changes to the layout from previous versions, but no big deal.

5Would be Great except Windows 8
By john rains
I have liked Acer products for years and chose one of the first small form factor PC's for my business. I don't use the RL80 as a media center but as a desktop PC and, as such, it's a fabulous machine. Speedy and great graphics but Windows 8, or rather Metro, sucks on a desktop. If you liked games like Internet Backgammon, say adios. Microsoft is force training it's users into cloud computing which I don't appreciate. Source Forge has open source software that will give you back your Start button and boot into the desktop. Metro doesn't have multiple windows displayed concurrently so the "windows" desktop has been reduced to the tablet or smart phone limitation. Finally, don't even think about installing ANY other operating system instead of Windows 8. There are no drivers available. Don't believe me? Google to see the many people who tried.

4Excellent HTPC
By Dr. Amols
If you know what a HTPC is and have been holding off on Windows 8 look no further. There is a bit of a learning curve but with perseverance and looking up things on the internet when you get stuck, you'll end up loving this little machine. As far as form factor, and included specifications its harder to do better if you're looking for a HTPC.

Philips HTS3371D/F7 DVD Home Theater with 1080P HDmi Upconversion

Product Description

The Philips HTS3371D/F7 DVD Home Theater System's HDMI 1080p upscaling delivers images that are crystal clear. Movies in standard definition can now be enjoyed in true high definition resolution - ensuring more details and more true-to-life pictures. Progressive Scan (represented by "p" in "1080p') eliminates the line structure prevalent on TV screens, again ensuring relentlessly sharp images. To top it off, HDMI makes a direct digital connection that can carry uncompressed digital HD video as well as digital multichannel audio, without conversions to analog - delivering perfect picture and sound quality, completely free from noise.

5Can't go wrong with the great value, superb quality, and perfect sound.
By Jeff
What a great sound system. Fully capable Dolby Digital ProLogic II surround sound (meaning the speakers can independently play the correct sound on each one depending on the program whether it's a DVD or TV show broad casted in Dolby Digital Surround sound and HDTV.) Put in a Dolby 5.1 surround sound capable DVD or TV show and it sounds like you're sitting in a movie theater. You will hear things in shows you've watched before that you never know were even there. It's amazing, and this unit delivers.Couple of things you will need - an optical audio cable for premium sound. (RCA's not only won't sound nearly as good but I don't believe they will allow the Dolby Digital 5.1 to work properly.) Also, you'll want to buy a HDMI cable to hook up the unit for DVD playing. The optical cable, assuming your TV or cable box is capable, is a necessity. I used RCA audio cables for a few days before buying an Optical audio cable and the difference is night and day. Also, the rear speaker wire isn't really long enough to properly mount the two rear speakers where they need to go. I bought an extra roll of speaker wire and lengthened them so that I could mount them up on my walls, running them through the attic, under about six feet of carpet, and to my 46" Samsung 1080p LCD TV, with all of the wires hidden. All of the speakers have a plug on the end so even if they are long enough for your application you'll have to drill a 3/4" hole in the wall to route them through your attic. Or you can just cut the wire, run it through, then splice it all back together.I'm a beginner at this stuff, first time I've ever done ANY wiring and only the second time I've ran wires through my attic. It took a few hours but it was well worth it. The extra 100 feet of speaker wire only cost me about $10 dollars (didn't use all 100 feet obviously) and an eight foot Optical cable was about $15. An HDMI cable will run you about $40 dollars for a six foot cable. But if you have an HDTV, you MUST use an HDMI cable for the DVD player and you MUST use an Optical cable for the sound. If not, you might as well just stick with your TV speakers you already have. One thing - Comcast universal remotes do NOT support this unit, which was a big turnoff for me personally. Instead of being able to control everything with a single remote I now have to use the Philips remote just to control the sound. But again, with the absolute superb sound, quality of the entire unit, and ease of install, it is well worth it all.If I had to describe this unit in one sentence I would say it is sound in HD, just as HDTV is video in HD. I gave it five stars for sure but if I could change anything I would make the "plugs" on the end of the speaker wires removable (for routing through walls,) make it compatible with a Comcast remote, and that's about it. Otherwise, it's very well-priced...a ridiculous value really...you get your moneys worth and then some, very easy to install (unless you're like me and you want ALL of your wires hidden, which requires a bit more labor but is still VERY easy.) I looked into wireless rear speakers and not only are they extremely expensive ($500+ or more) but they interfere with wireless Internet connections and the sound quality is compromised by interference. Wired is the ONLY way to go and Phillips delivers!!

5Great Home Theater System for a Small Price!
By Steven M. Dobson
I bought this on the internet, but Model HTS3372 at Wall Market is the same and even better value now. We had trouble understanding what people were saying in movies on our LCD TV, before we bought this. Now we can hear clearly at much lower sound level. The kids can now watch a movie and hear it while we play cards just a few feet away in the kitchen. The remote controls the iPod also so we can skip to the next song if we want. The included DVD player works great. The small speakers make it easy to install without taking over your whole room. The small wire easily slides under the carpet without showing so that you can install the rear speakers. The plug in on the end of the speaker wire can easily be removed with a toothpick and then replaced after you run the wire under the carpet. My wife who is not into such things normally just loves it because it sounds so good and is easy to hear even when turned down low.

5Pleased with this product
By Y. Llanos Parra
I bought this Home Theater because I already had some Philips computer speakers, so I knew this is a good brand in terms of audio electronics performance. In summary, I can tell you that this system is awesome: it is very loud, and it looks much more pretty than in pictures, both the speakers and the console. There are some nice rounded egdes for the speakers and the bass is bigger than shown in pictures. The speaker cables are long and transparent, so it shouldn't be a problem when setting them up across the room. The iPod docking station works pretty good and the DVD upconversion is a nice feature too.I bought this mainly because I really like music, so I got this connected to a Creative Labs SB1090 USB Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0017QQQAE/ref=ox_ya_oh_product) via an optical TOSLink Cable. The sound is just amazing, with clear sound and a very powerfull, non-distorted bass, which is very important to me.It is very nice to have the opcion to switch to 5-Channel stereo, so you can listen your MP3s using the 5 speakers. All my friends and even my dad (which is not into the technology thing) has seen and listen this system and they said they are planning on getting one for themselves.I really recommend this product to anyone.

5LOVE ITTT
By Emily
Exactly as described. I adore it. Best Microsoft windows laptop in my opinion. I love the look of it and windows 8 is pretty awesome as well. Its not as hard to operate as people have been saying it is. i just got my laptop today and im already used to it. lol. You still have the original desktop to so theres nothing different except the setup in the begining. And if you order this laptop on amazon. i suggest getting it through amazon and go about the free shipping they offer when you buy more then one thing over 25 dollars. my estimated shipping was for next week and i ordered it on monday. Waaaay earlier then expected which is even better! So, if your thinking about getting this laptop, go for it! Deffinetly worth it and its different in a good way from the rest. :3

2DVD Door
By David
Aside from lacking in adjustments to separate bass unit - there are adjustment settings, but settings don't really make a big difference in sound, the unit delivers impressive sound. However, the DVD auto door cover malfunctioned within a few months of purchase and had to be removed.
